Hello third grade families, and welcome to our last and final week of online instruction.
Although this year was unconventional, and difficult, we are so very proud of each and every one of our students. You all persevered, worked extremely hard under the circumstances and demonstrated responsibility from the comforts of your own homes. Parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends...you all became teachers overnight. Thank you for guiding our fish and frogs as they completed their third grade year at Tapestry Charter School. You are the real hero's in all of this!
This summer will be more important than summers before. We encourage all of you to continue to use Zearn and RAZ Kids to practice math and ELA before you return as 4th graders in the fall. Another opportunity presented to Tapestry families for FREE is this program being offered by Say Yes! Please access the link and contact them directly for details: https://sayyesbuffalo.org/summer2020/
Thank you all for an incredible and unforgettable third grade year! Enjoy your summer, work hard, continue to demonstrate PIRR and be kind. We miss you all and hope to see you soon!
Lots of love-- Mrs. Natalie, Mrs. Becky, Mrs. Lisa and Ms. Amy

Good evening third grade families! Wahoo & congratulations-we have officially made it to June. We are so very proud of each and every one of you for how hard you have worked since the building closed!!
It felt as though overnight we had to reimagine what education looked like. We needed to come together, support one another and push ourselves harder than ever before. We were challenged daily. We had to use the resources we had on hand. This has not been easy. Some days were more of a struggle than others. Some days our learning had to come second, as there were other things that took priority. Parents became teachers while homes became classrooms. Perseverance, on those beautiful spring days, when all you might have wanted to do was get outside, was used. Because of all of this, and so much more, you should all be proud of yourselves.
It is more important now than before that you continue to show PIRR at home, in these last few weeks of remote learning. It is important to persevere on your tasks and assignments. Your goal is to try at least 30 minutes of math every day and 30 minutes of ELA every day. We only have 13 more days where we will be posting learning tasks, links and assignments. 13! After Wednesday June 17, we will be wrapping up the school year with celebrations, a virtual field day, reflections and a parade! Please see the email from Mrs. Pangborn, regarding the end of the year schedule.
Parents, thank you for all you have done to help your child(ren) succeed over the last few months. As always, we appreciate your continued support.
**Reminder-Please submit any masterpieces created while at home to Ms. Brooke (see the message from Thursday May 28 for more information).

Hello and happy Sunday 3rd grade families. We are now entering our 10th week of being away from the classroom. You have all done some incredible work from home, which has shown in our participation and engagement data. We couldn't be more proud! Although news of losing our teaching partners has been extremely difficult, it is important to continue to persevere and work hard.
Speaking of participation and engagement...this Wednesday 5/20, you will be receiving your child's progress report of the first 4 weeks of online learning. These will either be sent via Remind or email. Please be on the lookout.
This week is a SHORT week, with Friday being a "catch-up" day. We will not be posting any new learning on Friday 5/22, but we will post the links for Monday-Thursday for you to check back and complete any unfinished work. Please be sure to do SOMETHING on Friday, even if you choose a few books from RAZ Kids to listen to or read. Keep growing your minds!
Monday 5/25 is a day off. Happy Memorial Day.
This week we are excited to be partnering up with Ms. Brooke for some visual arts! She has planned some great lessons for you daily. She will also be joining us for some live crews! We are looking forward to seeing what great art you will create over the next two weeks.
Keep up the good work!
--Third Grade Team
Hello Fish & Frogs!
You have done some great learning about the dangers of plastic in our water- especially in our local waterways like lake Erie.
Some of you even came up with some awesome ways to help reduce single use plastics in our plastic pledge! (seen below)
We have an exciting opportunity to talk to a real scientist who is studying the effects of micro plastics in the ocean. Her name is Alexa Schindel, and she and several other female scientists got a chance to sail from Panama to the Galapagos islands to collect and study plastic from the ocean water.
Check out the video below to learn a little bit about her expedition. Next week, Alexa will record a presentation for us to watch. Before she does, please add any questions you have for her to the Google Document found below. What are you wondering about plastic in our oceans & lakes?
Believe it or not, micro plastics are an issue close to home for us in Buffalo. Alexa has specifically noted this below:
“The issue of micro plastics is a really big issue in the Great Lakes, just as they are in the ocean. The goal is to advance a better understanding of the plastic issue as a whole and address knowledge gaps. ”
Alexa Schindel, associate professor
Department of Learning and Instruction
We hope you might have a question or two to ask Alexa! Look out for her video presentation next week.
Thanks all & keep up the hard work!
-Ms. Amy, Mrs. Natalie, Mrs. Becky & Ms. Lisa

Look up in the sky for a Salute to WNY on May 12th to honor all frontline workers!
Beginning Monday, May 11 Tapestry Charter School will NO LONGER be using Zoom for online instruction. Your child will not have access to the app any longer on Tapestry issued computers. Moving forward, we will be using Google Meet for all of our live crew lessons. In order to gain access to the meetings, your child MUST use their own Tapestry email accounts. These are gmail accounts.
**If you need your child's login and password information, please contact your child's teacher.
Go to gmail.com. You will see the screen below.
2. Type in your child's username and password. You MUST type in the entire email, ending with @student.tapestryschool.org. You will see the screen below.
3. On the right hand side, click on the 9-square icon to access apps, as shown below. Click on the "Meet" icon.
4. This will open the page below. Click on "use a meeting code" and input the code your teacher has provided for you. You will NOT be able to enter the meeting until your teacher has joined.
WEEK 8
Good Morning Fish and Frog Families. What a beautiful sunny day to begin our new week on. As we are all very much aware, Governor Cuomo has officially closed our schools for the rest of the year. The feelings we are all experiencing are varied and all very real.
Be assured we are here and prepared to take care of you, our students, through the rest of the year. It is more important than ever that you continue to persevere and meet this challenge. You all need to be ready to enter fourth grade (oh my gosh, can't believe it) as readers, mathematicians , writers, and creative and critical thinkers. You can do this!! A few more weeks to work through the daily schedules, putting forth your best effort, and we will see you enter the building as confident fourth graders!
YOU'VE GOT THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try your best, that's what we expect. That is what you can do for yourself.
This week we will be switching from music and theatre to library with Ms. Jennifer. She has some fun things planned, so make sure you include this as part of your daily schedule.
On a final note:
We are so proud of the great work you all did with Ms. Deborah and Ms. Terra! Your poems and movements were really beautiful. So many of you actively participated which is wonderful. Thank you!
So, focus, and maybe start your Monday morning with a little self talk, something as simple as saying to yourself when you look at the schedule on day 1 as "I can do this!"
We are proud of all of you, see you on Zoom!!
Mrs. Becky, Ms. Lisa, Mrs. Natalie and Ms. Amy
Tomorrow is BETTER WORLD DAY! Tapestry was just featured in the latest EL Education Better World Day update-check out the link below.

Tomorrow, Friday May 1, 2020 from 9:00-11:00am come celebrate our food service crew via our food service drive-thru line! Decorate your car, make posters, bring a handmade card or letter to show your appreciation, or bring any rocks you painted for the rock garden!
We wish you well as we head into week 7 of our at-home learning. We've come a long way, haven't we? It has been great to see the perseverance taking place at home; you are engaged with the material and have provided us with feedback. Keep up the hard work!
We understand there is a lot going on with online learning. In the coming week, we will be taking some time to do a tutorial of all the online resources- where to find them, how to use them, where to find class codes /passwords, and any questions you may have. You can find these as live videos, or on a 1:1 basis, hosted by your classroom teachers. We are here as a support for you and want to make things as streamlined as possible!
Please continue to check our daily posted plans on the homepage of this site, as well as fill out the participation form found on the bottom of those plans. The form provides us with helpful feedback and helps us stay connected with you all. We have some fun things planned for you- especially some collaborations with dance and theater that fit nicely with our science/social studies lessons about water on earth!
Hopefully we will start to see some warmer, spring weather headed our way. Check out this trail guide from the City of Buffalo http://www.buffalony.gov/DocumentCenter/View/7155/City-of-Buffalo-Walking-Parks-and-Trails---New-Logo---Compressed
Take some time to explore and get some fresh air!
It has been great to see you all during our Zoom meetings. Please remember to follow our Zoom rules posted below so we can have a fun & successful meeting!
We miss you all very much. Keep showing PIRR, using stop, walk & talk when you can, and please remember to be kind. We are in this together!
With an abundance of virtual hugs,
Ms. Amy, Mrs. Natalie, Mrs. Becky & Mrs. Lisa.
Help us to add to our Kindness Rock garden.
Find a rock
Paint the rock with inspirational messages and/or pictures
Place the rock in a baggie (make sure the paint is dry)
Bring the rock to school during food service hours 9am-3pm
So begins a new week, the next phase of our school closing, where we move completely online. Beginning tomorrow, on our homepage, you will see a daily learning schedule. We will continue our daily crew videos either live or pre-recorded, followed by links and activities for each of our core subjects-math, ELA, writing, science and social studies, and super subjects. We will be asking students to log into sites such as IXL, Zearn, Raz-Kids, Brainpop, and Readworks. If you haven't yet checked these sites out, please do so. If you are having difficulty logging on, please reach out to your child's teacher. At the end of every day, we are asking parents/guardians to click on and complete the participation form linked at the bottom of our daily schedule.
We will reiterate what Mrs. Pangborn shared in her last email to you all. As always, we are encouraging you to please do what you can as far as school work. We understand that each house looks differently, circumstances are different, but we want to affirm all that you are doing and recognize that we are all trying to do our very best for children and ourselves during this time of crisis.
This week is also Earth Week, Wednesday being Earth Day. Please see Mayor Byron Brown's virtual challenges below if you are looking for some fun ways to participate. Share any pictures with your child's teacher-we'd love to see how you are taking care of the planet!
Also, check out this letter from your PE teachers!
Continue to persevere on your work, be respectful to your family, use integrity by doing the right thing, and demonstrate responsibility whether by getting your work done daily or helping out with chores.
We have loved hearing from you all these past few weeks! We are so proud of the work you have all accomplished and how strong you have all been. We miss you all terribly and hope you are well.
Mrs. Natalie, Ms. Amy, Mrs. Becky and Mrs. Lisa

It is our expectation that you are working on both your packets and the online platforms we have made available to you in this page. Take a look at last week's newsletter for instructions if needed.
Miss Becky has included Friendly Frog book recommendations as well as a new fraction activity! (check it out below) You have done such a nice job of responding to our Remind app. Thank you for sending in all those photos and book recommendations through REMIND.
The weather is getting nicer by the day. Make sure you get out in the morning and take a deep breath of fresh air, listen for the birds, and smile. Every day is a NEW day.
You are ALL awesome! Truly. We miss you very much!
Keep growing those amazing brains!
Mrs. Lisa and the Third Grade Team.
Be sure to check out the Super Subjects tab on our website. They just added a newsletter and are updating weekly.

COMING SOON
Beginning on Monday April 6, 2020
Every day, at 11:00am, you will be able to access either a live or a pre-recorded crew lesson held by one of your teachers. The links to each crew lesson will be on our home page.
Each lesson will have a learning target, some sort of video/podcast/read aloud, and an activity for you to complete. If you are participating in a live feed, there will be plenty of discussion going on.
We hope you are well & we will "see" you next week during crew.
The Fantastic Fish got a chance to use ZOOM this morning for the first time. They got a chance to say hello to all of their friends, shared what they have been doing and what they have been reading. Ms. Amy then led a discussion on self-awareness. She challenged the fish to choose an option to respond to this week & now we want to challenge ALL of the third graders, Frogs included. Please see the options below and choose one to help you this week! We miss you all and hope you are well.
The Friendly Frogs listened to Mrs. Lisa read-aloud Elmer during a zoom conference yesterday. We had a discussion about the lesson of the story and what makes you unique. Sophia created her own elephant and glued in magazine photos all about her. Way to go! You can also try this at home, third graders!
Happy Monday all!
You may have heard of, or even used before, the video conferencing platform called Zoom. In the coming weeks, you may see your teachers scheduling a few Zoom meetings for everyone to join together.
Using Zoom can be a very beneficial way to for us to communicate and connect in real time. Below are some helpful instructions for using the application.
Go to zoom.com to get started
Download the application onto your computer (Zoom is also an app that can be downloaded onto your phone)
Click "join a meeting" to get started (you may create an account if you would like, but it is not necessary if you want to join a meeting)
A link will be provided to you from your teacher with the scheduled meeting time and code. Click on the link from your computer, or, type in the code provided to join the meeting
Check out the video below for more information!
Happy zooming!
Hello all and a happy Sunday to everyone!
Who got a chance to get outside this week? I was lucky enough to get a walk in before the storm came today! I can't wait to hear about how you all have been keeping busy.
As we head into weeks 3 & 4 of our distance learning, we are looking forward to seeing students using the daily learning expectations found in the packets we created & sent home. We have several online resources such as IXL and Zearn for math, and Raz-Kids for reading. We encourage third graders to use these online tools as supplementary resources in addition to the packets.
For supplementary/additional math material, we encourage students to go onto Zearn and/or IXL daily to receive more guided and differentiated learning during our time apart.
Skills on both Zearn and IXL have been hand picked by your student’s teacher to meet his/her needs. We encourage you to support your student with completing either 1 IXL skill (to a SMART score of at least 80) or a complete Zearn lesson from beginning to end each day.
**A note about IXL: When your student logs on, you will see a yellow star with recommended skills. Please have your student try these skills. They were hand picked by your students teacher.
For additional reading material, log onto Raz-kids and find leveled books to read or listen to. Take the quiz at the end for extra comprehension practice.
As we continue our distance learning, we will be checking on students who are doing an excellent job utilizing our online resources. Each week we will be awarding ribbon awards to some students who went above and beyond on either of our three online platforms. See the "Shout Outs" section below.
As always, please reach out to any of us with anything you need. We miss you all!
Stay healthy and safe,
Ms. Amy & the Third Grade Team
As the weeks continue, we will be checking on everyone who is using our online resources for extra practice. We have created some ribbons awarded to students showing an excellent commitment to practicing at home!

Good morning third graders. Today looks like it is going to be a beautiful day, a day to get outside and get some fresh air! Make up a new outdoor game to play, take a walk, or collect some rocks to create your own kindness rocks to spread throughout your neighborhood! Participate in our virtual spirit week (see above schedule!) I think we could all use some positivity and light these days!
We are going on week two of school being closed. We hope this past week you were able to complete some of your work packet, get some reading done, participate in Mrs. Pangborn's challenges, do some free writing or practice your handwriting. It is so important to stay on top of your learning and education while away from school. Keep up the momentum as you go into this second week. Try to complete one math activity and one ELA activity a day! I have seen SEVERAL of you practicing your math skills on IXL, bravo!! Remember there is also ZEARN and Raz Kids. Over the next few weeks, keep an eye out for a special letter in the mail from one of your teachers. We all miss you so very much and hope everyday that you are healthy and happy.
Below I have shared with you a read aloud story, one of my favorites, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. This story is being read aloud by someone VERY important to me, my dad, or as Ava calls him, "pops!" I have been lucky enough to have him staying with me for the past few weeks. He retired from the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, as a librarian. He has always had a love of books and reading and was so happy to be asked to read this story aloud for all of you!
Sit back, relax, click the link below and enjoy the story!
Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
Miss you all.
Mrs. Natalie & the third grade team
Thank you to Sawyer & Sophia for their rainbow submission!! Keep them coming!!
Ella's rainbow art!
The National Elementary Honor Society has been challenged to create rainbow art. This art, inspired by neighborhoods in Philadelphia, is meant to be hung in windows so that families walking by can be reminded that although times are difficult now, there will be a rainbow at the end of it all. I am now challenging all of you, third graders! Create some rainbow art and hang it for others to see. Then do two things for me.
1. Take a picture and email it to your teacher. We will compile these and share them out for all to see.
2. Take a walk! Get outside and participate in a rainbow hunt! See if any neighborhoods nearby are also participating.
Please see the rainbow art below, that my daughter created for a little inspiration. Stay healthy, be kind, read a book, and get outside!! We will get through this-together! I miss you all terribly and cannot wait to hear from you and see some rainbow art!
