In creating the charter for Taos Academy, Traci Filiss and Karin Moulton found Creative Learning Systems. This company acts as an agent of connection and advocacy for educators, students, and classrooms. They research educational technologies, create curricula, and establish classrooms -- just like the one at Taos Academy. Nearly all the resources in our SmartLab were procured through Creative Learning Systems.
Several teachers have been SmartLab facilitators, including Steve Robbins, Dmitri Calvert (2009-2010), Alex Hubbard (2010-2011), Michael Curry (2011-2013), and Lee Shawver (2014-present).
A project designed by Kiko Molina, Dalton Oakley, and Elijah Cohn (before anyone had caught wind of a global craze). They did research on ADD and decided to print fidget devices (aka torqbars) to give to kids with attention challenges.
The SmartLab has been selling these devices, the proceeds of which have gone to buy more filament and other important resources for the SmartLab.
The YouTube playlist to the right shows a few designs and how they were sliced for printing.
