Carole Baas, PhD, became involved in cancer research advocacy following her diagnosis of early-stage breast cancer in 2004. She currently serves as National Advocate for the Physical Sciences in Oncology Network at the National Cancer Institute, where she helps bridge the perspectives of patients and researchers. A second breast cancer diagnosis in 2021 further strengthened her commitment to advancing patient-centered cancer research. In addition to PS-ON leadership, Dr. Baas serves on the Clinical Imaging Steering Committee and the Patient Advocate Steering Committee for the NCI National Clinical Trials Network. She is also an Advocate in Science for Susan G. Komen, a Community Research Partner for the American Cancer Society (ACS), a member of the Baylor Research Institute Institutional Review Board, a RISE Legacy Advocate for the Young Survival Coalition, and a member of the Breast Cancer and Experimental Imaging Sciences Committees at ECOG-ACRIN. Dr. Baas advises multiple federally funded cancer research projects and clinical trials. She mentors early-career investigators through national training programs, including the ASCO/AACR Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop and the CDMRP–funded Convergent Science Virtual Cancer Center. She frequently serves as a peer reviewer for numerous organizations including NCI, CDMRP, Komen, ACS, PCORI, and AACR, helping shape the future of cancer research and clinical trials. Dr. Baas holds a PhD in Bioengineering from Texas A&M University.
