Hords Creek Summer Intern
Once again, the US Army Corps of Engineers is recruiting candidates for our 2026 Summer Park Rangers for Hords Creek, Navarro Mills, Proctor, Waco, and Whitney Lakes in north-central Texas. These positions are full-time over the summer months, pay $16 per hour with night, Sunday, holiday, and overtime pay differentials, offer personal and sick leave, and provide valuable experience working for a federal land management and recreation agency. Serving as a summer park ranger often provides the experience and connections to begin a fruitful and enjoyable career with the US Army Corps of Engineers in various roles, including park rangers, natural resources specialists, natural resources managers, or biologists, to name a few. Sea Grant’s Community Engaged Internship (CEI) aims to broaden participation in coastal, ocean and marine sciences by offering paid internships to students in any field of study, with an interest in coastal and marine sciences. Harris County, TX - Forestry Summer Intern, Flood Control District
The Harris County Flood Control District (District) is seeking interns to join their Vegetation Management team. The team services a wide range of vegetation types and programs that include over 2,500 miles of channels, basins and buy-out lots throughout Harris County. Interns will work closely with the department’s staff forester in connection with the District’s tree inventory and assessment program. This is a 12-week paid internship program that will provide candidates with an exciting opportunity to learn ‘real world’ experience and gain clarity on their ideal career path.

This internship opportunity is available to veterans and military spouses/dependents. Interns will be involved in monitoring monarchs and their habitats, as well as creating environmental education and outreach programs about pollinators, monarchs, and migratory species to be given at military bases.

Environmental Education Summer Intern
The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center is looking for undergraduate students entering their Junior or Senior year, or recently graduated students with an interest in Environmental Education. Our Environmental Education Interns work side by side with our Naturalist teaching staff to deliver educational lessons and activities for children ranging from toddlers to 12 years old during summer camp programs, family classes, and in our interactive exhibit space, the Discovery Room. Interns participate in 1 week of training and rotate through various summer camp duties for 10 weeks.

The camp is located about an hour and a half from Charleston, South Carolina, at Camp Bob Cooper, directly on Lake Marion (South Carolina’s largest lake). A majority of the camp week will focus on hunting and fishing techniques, wildlife ecology, outdoor survival skills, and shooting sports activities (shotgun, rifle, and archery). Instructors will be trained and certified through USA Archery, South Carolina 4H Shooting Sports, and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. RMBL hosts about a hundred field-based biological research projects, including but not limited to plant ecology, species interactions, pollination, aquatic ecology, bird monitoring, animal behavior, and wildlife biology. We are adding to the Trinity River Authority’s Water Resources Team! The Trinity River Authority is seeking a motivated, dynamic, and results driven individual to support impactful environmental projects, grant initiatives, and watershed protection efforts across the organization. This role provides hands-on experience in applied watershed science, environmental data management, and data analysis, supporting projects that protect major water supply reservoirs such as Lake Livingston and Joe Pool Lake. Work is split between field, office, and stakeholder settings. You will support watershed and flood-related projects, participate in outreach and stakeholder activities, help organize and manage environmental data, and assist with environmental sampling.
Required skills
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Hydrology, Ecology, or related field

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is similar to the Watershed Scientist position but operates with greater autonomy and with more technical expertise. This scientist will support the Technical Services and Basin Planning Water Resources Planning group in a variety of functions, primarily in raw water supply accounting, flood risk reduction, and watershed-protection-related activities. The scientist will work closely with other Authority departments, customer cities, and basin stakeholders (state agencies, citizens, and NGOs) to coordinate the transfer of information regarding water availability and use, flood risk reduction, and to facilitate meetings. This position may include field investigations, accounting tool development, data analysis, reporting writing, and assistance with grant implementation. This individual will assist in identifying and procuring grant funding in support of the Authority’s mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop and maintain workflow processes to ensure timely acquisition and reporting of raw-water supply availability and usage data by the Authority and customer cities. This includes information that the Authority is contractually or regulatorily obliged to provide. It will also include furnishing water sales information to Finance for the creation of customer city invoicing.
2. Maintain water reuse accounting plans and raw-water availability and supply dashboards.
3. Assist in developing, upgrading, and maintaining water accounting software like ESRI Dashboards, Power BI, or similar. Has primary responsibility for making sure these communication outlets are up and running with minimum downtime.
4. Assist in the procurement and management of watershed and flood risk reduction, response, and mitigation grants, 319 Non-point Source, and other state and federal grants as appropriate.
5. Perform and assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of field activities for ongoing Environmental Services and grants.
6. Perform and assist with education and outreach activities with landowners, NGOs, and federal, state, county, and local governmental officials to promote healthy watershed practices and minimize flood risks.
7. Analyze and interpret raw-water use and supply availability, and environmental data. Assist in the production of reports. This will require the use of spreadsheets, statistical packages, databases, word processors, and other computer applications, as well as expert knowledge of water quality and aquatic systems.
8. Perform and assist in all aspects of raw water supply planning, watershed coordination, and flood-risk reduction activities.
9. Coordinate with staff from other agencies to streamline the acquisition of water use reporting data.
10. Coordinate with internal TRA staff and management to ensure data flow between customer cities and TRA.
11. Other duties as assigned.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Limited.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree required.

Wildlife Services is looking for qualified individuals to conduct surveys at bio secure poultry facilities to help in the reduction of the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). Detailed Description:
In this internship, the selected candidate will be a member of a team providing input and support for various watershed management and education programs, including the Geronimo and Alligator Creeks Watershed Protection Plan; Texas Watershed Steward Program; and Mill Creek Watershed Protection Plan. The intern will also support other related water quality programs of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences. By assisting with the facilitation of public meetings, and supporting other project efforts as needed, the candidate will be involved in all aspects of water quality program operations, including delivery of educational programs to watershed stakeholders. Such facilitation includes: the development of educational resources (PowerPoint slide sets, web pages, news releases, fliers, etc.); assisting with implementation of existing watershed protection plans (task coordination and development of proposals and programs in support of project goals); the opportunity for day-trip travel with program staff in an Extension vehicle; and development of project reports. In this position, the selected candidate would have the opportunity to work closely with other team members, Extension Specialists and County Agents, river authorities, and state and federal agency partners.
This position can be tailored in some ways to fit the selected candidate’s strengths or desired outcomes. For example, if the selected candidate has a particular interest in community engagement or communication and marketing, they might focus on creating fliers or social media posts and calling project partners. If the selected candidate would like to gain experience in data processing, they might take on a project making graphs of water quality data to be shared with the public.
