10-day backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch with a group of 11 people. With preparation beforehand. As Crew leader communicated with Staff on food and water, camp check-ins, planning, and paperwork.
The NHS of scouting, allows scouts to participate in servant leadership and learn about the ideals of cheerful service. To become a member, one must be elected by fellow scouts, based on whether they show the qualities of a good scout.
A week-long camp for scouts to learn about leadership skills and BSA troops. During the week I acted as a role model and teacher for 7 of the scouts. Plus planning and working ahead of time to set up and run the event as well as a lesson on leadership.
On the water leadership course, meant to teach leadership skills and allow them to apply them in real life. The course I was selected for was 9 days long sailing in the Chesapeake Bay. There I got to experience taking care of and living on a 46 ft. Morgan ketch named “der PeLiKan”.
Organizations that allowed me to learn a variety of outdoor skills: land to sea. Also allowed me to learn how to lead and other leadership skills, through classes and experience.
