On this page you will find my stories behind the 5 C's, Communication, Critical Problem Solving, Collaboration, Culture, and Competencies. My journey is still continuing, so I will continue to grow.
Visual Journalism has been one of the most beneficial classes I have taken. I very much enjoy the visual medium, so being able to communicate more effectively through the visual medium has been incredibly gratifying. Whether it be in data or simply just a nice looking poster, this semester I have gained skills that I feel truly have enhanced my concept of visual communication. I like to see my progress through things such as my thumbnails. The thumbnail for my Black Panther: Wakanda Forever review is one that I have learned to realize is very distracting. The background takes away from the main point of the thumbnail and blurs the core parts of the thumbnail, being the logo. I have had many people tell me that the background is too much. I like to compare that thumbnail to a recent one where I feel my visual communication is much better. The idea of my Movies & Munchies Interview thumbnail is much simpler and is much more pleasant to look at. It is much easier to immediately depict the thumbnail's core pieces without losing a creative touch.

My new understanding of communicating...
The Spring 2023 semester was my first semester at TAMU. With my love of film and discussing it, I joined the MSC Aggie Cinema organization. I knew that this was something that I really wanted to grow my presence in. The only problem was that every chair position was filled. I would compare myself against the current graphic designer and videographer and realized that I would need to truly up my game if I wanted a position. I have no more experience in editing videos than the few videos I found on YouTube to teach myself when I started my movie review channel. I had no experience in event handling a camera. How was I going to prove that I was capable of this job? I really sat down with myself and designed a game plan of what I wanted to prove I could achieve by the time application for the positions came around. Every week I would learn a new editing skill, whether it be big or small, just something to add to my skill set. Within my YouTube videos, I would test my new skills so that I could have proof of a coherent editing skillset. I have also begun to write a script for a short that is planned to shoot in the summer. All of these new skills and new videos to add to my portfolio showed my VP that I was capable of the job and continuously growing. Even after I got the job, I have not stopped learning and understanding how to prevent the challenges ahead of me in the videography world.
In my intercultural class, we were tasked with creating our own superhero group. Each of our characters had to be some form of our personal cultures that is not highly represented in pop culture. All 5 of us come from different backgrounds so there was some difficulty in creating a coherent group. Through getting to know each other, we grew our understanding of each other's culture, allowing us to create our superhero group and rough sketches of what our group would look like. Without being open and brave enough to speak our concerns and opinions, our story would not have turned out as good as it is.

My intercultural class obviously has helped me to understand other cultures. Whether it has been getting to know my table members' backgrounds or going to diversity lectures, I have learned a lot in interculturalism. I would say the biggest culture shock I had was in an assignment where we had to create a meal from another country. My group chose Australia because none of us has been there. We had to create a meal from Australian culture, ours being rice and beans, and portion out the Australian sized meal and then the US portion. Just seeing how much smaller of a portion size Australian meals were was shocking, but helped us all to understand our own culture even more and Australias.
I am a Telecommunication Media Studies major. One of the classes I have taken, Theories of Media Studies, has taught me how to analyze different audiences. I have learned how audiences have grown and responded differently throughout different media mediums. It has been very interesting and beneficial to understand the current audience of the digital age. When I combine what I have learned about the audience and how to visual present information in my visual journalism class, I feel my media skills have really improved this semester. I no longer just create posters to make it look interesting, I can now create posters that reach certain audiences by understanding the audience and what compositions of the poster will reach that audience.
