TIPS FOR EXAM STUDYING

please remember to eat, sleep, drink water, and not cram!

  • make a study plan, plan out your time so you don’t run out of it! We recommend studying at least one week in advance.

  • If you review the material every day and regularly do practice problems AS YOU LEARN THE MATERIAL and go over the older material at least once a week studying will be SO MUCH EASIER!!!

  • work through your SI worksheets again

  • rework quizzes and any practice problems, especially those you struggle with

  • as your study write down the topics you have trouble with so you can spend more time on those

  • don’t just look at why the right answer is right on conceptual questions! also look at why the wrong answers are wrong!

  • do not cram

  • get enough sleep, drink enough water, eat enough food! your body functions much better when you take care of it

  • remember that energy drinks/coffee are not water

  • do not use your notes or answer keys when you rework the quizzes or problems! use the knowledge in your brain ONLY. this is how you can truly test yourself and see what you know and what you need to study

  • study groups! these are so great for helping you and others to understand the material

  • I like to rewrite definitions when I am having trouble remembering them! I personally think working with actual paper is better than things like quizlet but it's about whatever works best for you!

  • if you are having trouble concentrating, try moving locations! go study outside for a little bit or move locations in the library, go to wehner, a coffee shop, etc.

  • try learning in different ways and see what works best for you.

  • do not study at home/in your room. This is more distracting for your brain, also it's nice to have somewhere to relax and escape school a little!

  • small breaks can be good for you! I take breaks to: clean, take a drive, go outside, go on a walk (great if you have a dog or a roommate with a dog), go pet a dog, call home, listen to music, cook food, workout, eat, say hi to someone, etc. I would caution you to stay away from TV/youtube/instagram/tiktok/etc. these are really distracting and hard to get back to studying. the best breaks are ones to move some, even take a quick lap around the library!

good luck y'all, you're gonna crush it!
