When/why do I use an Interim test?

Interim assessments are used to track progress of students towards meeting standard.

Interim Assessments are to be taken independently by students or can be used in pairs, groups, as entry tasks, or pull out items in class. Just remember that they are meant to be done in class or as an assessment. Please do not print and send home with students. They are considered public, but secure items. If they were to be sent home then they are not secure anymore.

Interim Assessments can be taken more than one time, but each time it is taken a score will be recorded in the system.

There are three types of Interim Assessments

Link to view the overview of each Grade Level and the Assessments that are available. Tests with hand scoring needed are indicated on this overview document.

#1- ICA-Interim Comprehensive Assessment

An ICA has the same blueprint as the end of year Summative Assessments and assess the same standards. It will cover all claims/domains and report an Overall Score/Level and also claim/domain levels on reports. Hand scoring will be needed for constructed response and performance tasks using the THSS (Interim Teacher Hand Scoring System) to receive scores back for an ICA. (Training is available) If you choose to do an interim assessment with hand scoring, you will need to plan on scoring them.

*Important Note- If a Performance Task is being administered, students must also complete the CAT portion to receive any scores back. (These items are scored the same as the Summative assessment and are scored together for the overall score.)

#2-IAB-Interim Assessment Block

IABs are assessments teachers can use throughout the school year to assess smaller bundles of content. They are intended to provide educators and students the ability to check where they are at that moment in time, and educators can use results to determine next steps for instruction. Since the IABs are more granular than the ICAs, educators can use IABs during the school year more consistently with the sequence of their curricula. IABs will assess 1-8 targets.

#3-FIAB-Focused Interim Assessment Block

Focused IABs are very similar to the IABs except that they will assess only 1-3 targets.
