St Michael’s is always encouraging children to take up new challenges across various curriculum areas. Registrations are now open for the 2026 ICAS Competitions. These competitions provide students with the opportunity to test their skills and knowledge in a non-threatening environment. This year all tests will be online. Students will need to have headphones for the spelling test.
ICAS competitions are available to all students from Year 2 to Year 6 and are not compulsory. As a competition, the tests are set to be difficult and well above curriculum level, students not achieving above grade standard are not likely to benefit from competing.

Bayside Council is once again inviting local primary school students to take part in the 2025 Christmas Flag Competition. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to share their creativity and community spirit by designing a festive flag to be displayed across the Bayside area during the Christmas season.
Students are encouraged to create a design that celebrates Christmas joy, local identity, and the spirit of togetherness. Selected artworks will be professionally printed and displayed on street flags throughout the community.
Full competition details, including how to enter, design requirements, eligibility and key submission dates, can be found on the Bayside Council website:
https://www.bayside.nsw.gov.au/form/christmas-flag-competition-2025
Entries close soon, so please check the website for the final submission date.
We encourage all artists from St Michael’s to get involved and share their creativity with our local community.
We would like to acknowledge a group of students who have dedicated their time and energy throughout Term 1 to create a video highlighting their efforts in saving the endangered White's Seahorses. This project is a result of St Michael's close collaboration with the Sydney Institute of Marine Science over the past 12 months, where our students have actively engaged in learning about and contributing to local marine conservation initiatives.
This video has been submitted to the Sleek Geeks Science Eureka Prize, and we wish the students the best of luck. Congratulations to Zoe Canning, Indiana Pargeter, Selena Nguyen and Albert Budiharto, for their hard work and commitment to this important cause. We look forward to their ongoing contributions to environmental preservation!
