Thursday afternoons at Holy Cross College are sport afternoons. Every students takes part in a sport or other co-curricular activity. For some students this is house sport, and an opportunity to earn house points, for others it may be an opportunity to represent the College playing against other school. For others it may be an opportunity to participate in a recreational activity like fishing, archery or chess.
Every student at Holy Cross belongs to one of four Houses which he will represent on Thursday afternoons. House sport is conducted in Year Groups and includes activities from touch football and basketball, to handball, baseball, archery and oz-tag. Participation in house sports earn points towards the Three-Legged Emu, the coveted Holy Cross House Cup.
Holy Cross participates in a wide range of competitive sports against other Colleges too, including Basketball, Cricket, Football (Soccer), Rugby League, Tennis, Touch Football and Volleyball. Students are invited to try-out for teams before the start of the summer and winter seasons. In some of these sports the College enters multiple teams in each age group to allow as many boys to participate as possible.
There are also a number of sports that are conducted in carnival or gala day formats, including Golf, Cross Country Running and others.
The College also holds its own Swimming and Athletics carnivals each year with some students being selected to represent the College at inter-school championships, and others even going on to represent at state or national level.
It is most important to remember that, although being active and healthy is important for all boys, participating in sport is a privilege that is only given to students that participate fully in their learning and uphold the College's expectations for safe and respectful behaviour at school and in public.
