Learning With Macbook Air Device
Holy Cross has chosen the Apple Macbook as the digital learning tool for students from Years 7 - 12. Not that long ago learning at high school was based upon students reading information from text books or taking notes from their teachers. Success was based on whether you could remember content and write it out quickly in tests or neatly in assignments.
When computers and laptops were first introduced to schools, not much changed. Students simply typed out their notes instead of handwriting them and found information on the internet instead of text books. At Holy Cross, our expectation is that learning should be more than just remembering.
Boys are active learners which means they learn a lot more by doing. The Apple Macbook is a learning tool that will let you create by filming, photographing, drawing, and communicating with students across the class, across your year group and around the world.
Using a wide array of apps students can create their own, deep learning and develop skills that they can transfer from subject to subject and year to year.
One of the tools that the Apple Macbook uses is Apple Classroom. This app allows teachers to share tailored learning resources directly to each student's device and to see what is happening on each student's screen. It also allows students to display their work on the large screen in the classroom and get feedback from their peers to improve their learning.
Every student at Holy Cross also has access to the Google learning environment including the Google Apps for Education. Their school based email, Google Drive, docs, slides, sheets and drawing are all linked to the Google Classroom.
Using these apps on the Apple Macbook allows every student to access his learning from school and home. This means that if you are away from school for any reason, you can still access your work and receive feedback from your teachers, making the learning continuous.
Every student has received a letter outlining the specifications required for their Apple Macbook
