Sixth Grade Art

SHREWSBURY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Sixth grade artists stretched and explored their ideas of Art this year as they ventured out into new materials and processes while learning about important artists, past and present!

We are so proud of all that they have accomplished during their time at Shrewsbury and wish them the best as they move on to middle school! Stay creative! :)

Brandon B., Galaxy Drawing

Sixth grade artists created galaxies with a kind of chalk called NuPastel. They explored value, tints, and shades as they identified a light source in their galaxies that would guide them in creating a realistic light effect across their planets and stars.

Students used research of NASA images to inform their work, as well as their own imaginations. What resulted was totally unique, colorful and fun galaxies!

Sixth graders used the SCAMPER method to recreate products that could help improve their daily lives. SCAMPER is a thinking strategy using steps like combining, adapting, and repurposing to enable artists to bring their problem solving to another level.

Working with Clay...

Sixth grade LOVED using clay to create real and imagined landscapes, as well as personal objects of significance. We explored the idea of art being functional or decorative... or both!
