Here is one Yokut story/creation myth that I will be sharing with you. Enjoy!
Firstly, the world starts with a harsh flood. Because of this flood the world filled up with may seas. Eagle and Crow were flying. They were trying to look for land and food. They found a tree trunk sticking out of the water, they settled. For many days Eagle and Crow would fly in different places. They did this in search of bigger land. They didn't have any luck so far.
Secondly, on one day, they found a nearby Duck. The Duck was gathering fish and mud from the bottom of the sea. Eagle and Crow noticed they could bribe the Duck. They would give the Duck fish and the Duck would give them mud. They would stack and pile the mud until a larger land was made. The Duck agreed and started bringing up the mud.
Next, Eagle and crow agreed to split the new world they were creating equally. Secretly, the Crow gave himself extra mud when the Eagle was searching for more land. The Eagle found out and gave himself two times the mud that Crow had.
Suddenly, a big storm hit. Because of this, part of of the world washed out to sea. But, the Duck, Crow, and Eagle kept on working.
When the Sun hardened the mud, the Eagle ended up having a bigger part of the new world. Eagle's part of the world is the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Crow's part is the Coast Mountain Range.
In the USA there are about 2,000 yokuts today in the U.S.A. and in California
san joaquin valley and the western foothills on Sarah Nevada south of the Fresno river.
Below u can see the current borders of the yokut reservations in the U.S.A. ( sorry it is blurry )
