In their family lives, Chumash sing, dance, socialize all the time. They dance to heal and they dance for for Celebrations.
Some common jobs of the Chumash are chiefs, crafters, shaman priests, hunters, fishermen,and farmers and they harvest and store food.
The women wear skirts of deer skins or plant fiber. THe men wear skirts also. Their clothes change with the seasons. The children wear nothing when it's warm. Traditionally, men and children only wear clothes when it's cold.

Hutash, the Earth Mother, created the first Chumash people on the island of Limuw, now known as Santa Cruz. They were made from the seeds of a Magic Plant. Hutash told the people to go across the rainbow bridge and fill the whole world with people. So the Chumash people started to go across the bridge.
