Uber and Lyft are the modern day taxi.
Many individuals with disabilities are starting to use Uber or Lyft for rides when family members are not able to take them places or when a ride falls through.
How it works:
Download the app
Input a debit or credit card (no tipping or cash involved)
The individual simply needs to open the app, type in a destination and then they are notified of what driver will be picking them up. The notification includes:
A picture of the driver
Rating of the driver
Make, model, and color of vehicle
License plate number
The app tracks where the driver takes the individual. This can give peace and mind to families that are concerned about safety.+
Fare Deal
Many individuals with disabilities are eligible for a Fare Deal card to ride Metro. This means they pay half-price for each Metro trip.
Eligible participants include ACCESS card holders, riders with disabilities and medicare card holders
Travel training is free, personalized, one-on-one instruction for Access customers who want to learn to ride Metro buses
Using Metro instead of Access is a convenient, less expensive way to travel.
