PBSIS Program

Harker School uses the theme Comet Pride as part of Character Education and Positive Behavior Support in Schools (PBSIS). The program encourages students to demonstrate, promote, and celebrate Comet Pride.

Within the classroom we utilize many of these programs to foster a positive work environment. In our classroom we utilize the following PBSIS programs:

• Comet Cash - given out to students who demonstrate exceptional character while in the classroom

• Stellar Comet - each month a student is nominated for the classroom and is selected from amongst their grade level peers to be recognized for exemplary behavior and work

• Positive Office Referrals - used to break the stigma of having to visit the office for only negative consequences; students may be referred to the office when exhibiting positive behavior in the school

• Class Punch Cards - we have a class punch card that travels with us to specials and lunch; this card gets punched if the students are on task and behaving correctly; the punch card gets turned in when full and a friendly grade-level competition occurs to see which grade can reach level 10 first

• Individual Punch Cards - we also have individual punch cards that can be cashed in for the prize bin when full; the punches are acquired by completing work, finishing activities without reminders, or extra work on the iReady paths
