For staff using a Windows laptop. If your camera shows a black screen, a crossed-out icon, or "We can't find your camera" in Teams, Zoom, or the browser, start with the checks below. Most camera problems are a setting or another app holding the camera.
Check for a privacy shutter or camera key. Many laptops have a small slider over the lens or a keyboard key with a camera icon that turns the camera off.
Close other apps using the camera. Only one app can use the camera at a time. Close Teams, Zoom, browser tabs, and the Camera app, then try again.
Restart the laptop. A full restart fixes most camera hiccups. If you use a dock, unplug it and test the built-in camera on its own.
Allow camera access in Windows. Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera. Make sure Camera access, Let apps access your camera, and Let desktop apps access your camera are all on.
Pick the right camera in your meeting app. In Teams or Zoom, open device or video settings and choose the built-in camera, not a docking station or document camera.
Allow the camera in your browser. For web meetings, select the icon to the left of the web address and set Camera to Allow, then reload the page.
Submit a ticket with the computer name or asset tag.
Say which app you were using.
Attach a screenshot of any error message.
