Acting Stream

GENERAL INFO

Students participating in the acting stream perform on stage as actors, singers and dancers. Students interested in choreographing dance routines and directing are given the opportunity to practice these skills while preparing for our annual production.

Please Note:

Theatre Concentration is a demanding and rewarding program, both for actors and Tech Crew. Please note that preparation for our annual spring musical will require students to be available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as during pedagogical days.

AUDITIONS

Acting auditions for our annual spring musical are exclusive to Theatre Concenctration students. Auditions take place during class time in the fall of each school year, usually during the last week of term 1.

Students can communicate their interest in playing specific characters, however, they must be open to playing other roles in the production.

Auditions consist of the following:

1. Monologue
   • Of student's choice (appropriate language & content required).
   • Minimum of 1 minute.
   • Must be memorized.
2. Cold Read
   • Sample excerpt from that year's musical script.
   • Provided by program teacher during the week of auditions.
   • Not necessary to be memorized.
3. Singing
   • Sing a song from the musical that year.
4. Dance
   • Students are assigned a "Lip Sync Battle" group project during term 1. In addition to being evaluated on this project, this project is also the dance portion of their audition.
