Section 504
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
A person is considered to have disability if that person:
Has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of such person’s major life activities.
Has record of such an impairment, or
Is regarded as having such an impairment.
Special Education
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
A student is eligible for Special Education services when:
The child had been evaluated and has one or more disabilities,
and
The disability negatively affects his/her educational performance,
and
The disability requires special education and related services.
Social-Emotional & Behavior Supports may include but are not limited to
Referral and evaluation for Section 504 services
If eligible for 504 services, appropriate accommodations are developed to support the student's need based on the disabling condition and the resulting substantial limitation
Support for behavior may include the development of a Behavior Improvement Plan
Resources may include access to campus Social worker, Counselor, Restorative Practice Coach (Middle/High School), Nurse, or other designated support staff
Section 504 committees review student needs and plan annually to ensure those needs are met
Social-Emotional & Behavioral Supports may include but are not limited to
Referral and evaluation for Special Education services
If eligible for Special Education services, appropriate goals, accommodations, and/or modifications are developed to support the student's needs present levels of performance and areas of need.
Support to address behavioral or emotional concerns may include a Functional Behavioral Assessment to assist the ARD committee in creating a behavior intervention plan that supports the targeted social or behavioral concerns.
Resources may include access to social skills training, access to campus level supports such as access to the social worker, Counselor, Nurse and in some cases counseling/support from a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology
