The vision of the SUHSD Peer Assistance & Review Program is to build professional capacity within our district, increasing teacher efficacy, support, and leadership.
The mission of the SUHSD Peer Assistance & Review Program is to provide a job-embedded system of mentoring, support, and professional learning that addresses meaningful issues and individual needs of program participants in order to increase efficacy in the classroom and enhance student achievement.
Why should we participate in the SUHSD Peer Assistance and Review Program?
In One Minute Mentoring, the author captures the nature of meaningful mentoring: "Successful people do not reach their goals alone. Behind even the most independent achiever is a person or group of people who helped that person succeed." With this in mind, SUHSD PAR Program connects Participating Teachers with Consulting Teachers to support and guide them in their professional learning.
What is the SUHSD Peer Assistance and Review Program?
Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) is the process by which a veteran SUHSD teacher either volunteers to receive support from a consulting teacher or is referred or recommended to the program by their supervisor. SUHSD Peer Assistance and Review is offered on an annual basis. A Participating Teacher may choose an available Consulting Teacher from the Consulting Teacher Pool. Up to thirty hours of support is provided in a given year.
How do we participate in the SUHSD Peer Assistance and Review Program?
To get started, interested voluntary teachers may reach out directly to Emily Jimenez, PAR Program Manager, or speak with either their administrator or SEA President. Referred or recommended teachers will first be notified by SEA and the District of the recommendation to participate in PAR; recommended/referred teachers who wish to participate will inform Human Resources and the Joint Governance Panel (through the SEA President) of their interest. Once paired, the Participating Teacher will meet with the chosen Consulting Teacher on an as-needed basis for up to thirty hours in a given year. Consulting Teachers are required to submit Contact Logs as documentation of meeting and for payment purposes. Consulting Teachers also submit quarterly reflections/descriptions of action steps documented with the Participating Teacher on the PAR Professional Growth Document. These reflections are reviewed by the Joint Governance Panel on a quarterly basis for purposes of program review. Additional documentation is required for Referred/Recommended Teachers. Document submission is easy! Simply click on "Submissions" in the top toolbar or on the link below. Google Form links are available for submission of every required document. Complete the form, and that's it!
