Peer Counselor: Janay
Hey guys! My name is Janay and I'm so excited to be your peer counselor for period 1.
I love staying involved on campus and in my community. At Olympian, I'm part of Peer Mediation, Link Crew, and Young Life. I'm also a Sharp volunteer and a member of Fancy Detour Leadership Academy which empowers Black high school girls in San Diego. One accomplishment I'm really proud of is earning my Certified Nursing Assistant license while in high school.
If I had to describe myself, I'd say I'm someone who's always willing to help others. I decided to become a peer counselor because I discovered through peer mediation that I had a passion for helping others and also helping myself. I learned and applied the skills I was taught into real life to be the change around others.
After high school, I hope to attend a Historically Black College or University and major in either Pre-Medicine or Psychology. No matter which path I choose, my goal is to help others and make a positive impact in people's lives.
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you! Don't be afraid to say hi, Eagles!
Peer Counselor: Kaleb
Hello beautiful people, I’m your 3rd period Peer Counselor, Kaleb!
I’m so blessed to be serving as one of the PCs for this school year, and to have the opportunity to help each and every one of you with whatever problems you may encounter :’) Within school, I’m involved with the Advanced Peer Mediation program, but I am also a cabinet member of our school’s All Male dance team (join OFAM)! In my free time, I love going out and trying new restaurants with my friends and traveling. A fun fact about me is that I’m currently on a dance team outside of school called iLL Habits, where I have been for the past year and attend competitions all over the west coast. My plans after high school are to attend either UCSD or UCI as a major in psychology/neuroscience, in order to pursue a career as a child psychologist and continue serving others around me. I’ve taken up the role of becoming a Peer Counselor because of how passionate I am in giving back to others and emphasizing the need to prioritize mental health. I believe all students deserve representation and a voice to be heard, and I want to be a platform that allows anyone to do so.
Besides all that, never forget how beautiful and loved you are inside and out. Your life and every little thing about you is valuable. I hope to see you soon, Eagles! <3
Peer Counselor: Derek
Hey Eagles! My name is Derek, and I am this year's 5th period peer counselor!
Since my freshman year, peer counselors have helped me out so much, and experiencing that firsthand inspired me to step up and do the same for you guys. I genuinely love people and consider myself very empathetic, and having already completed the Advanced Peer Mediation program, I am so ready to be that supportive friend on campus for anyone who needs it. Outside of counseling, performing musical theatre is a huge passion of mine, I absolutely love to sing, act, and dance. Music is such a big part of my life that I actually plan to double major in music and education in college to become a teacher! I’ve been playing the guitar for 11 years, which eventually inspired me to pick up the bass and ukulele, too. I am also a major pop culture nerd. I absolutely LOVE Spider-Man, and I can talk endlessly about Star Wars, Marvel, and The Flash.
Whether you want to geek out over the latest movie, jam out to some music, or just need a safe, judgment-free space to vent about life, I’m here for you. I'm so excited to be your peer counselor this year!"
Peer Counselor: Alohalani
Aloha everyone! My name is Alohalani and I'm so excited and grateful to be your 6th period peer counselors this school year!
I can't wait to continue my growth journey with the peer meditation program and have all of you a part of my journey. I knew from a year ago Peer counseling was something I wanted to take part in because I wanted to be someone people can confide in and come to for support and understanding.
The people around me would describe me as funny, wise, caring, supportive and reliable. These are all things I love about myself! I look forward to being someone my peers can connect with yet, still maintain a safe space for all students to share out. I’m excited for what I'll learn as a Peer Counselor and how it'll help me further develop my skills toward a future in Psychology.
A quote I'd like to share is to remember everywhere and any point you're at in life, you're there for a reason so find that reason.
Thank you!
