Now that we are in the Blended Learning Model, not all students will have Music Class every week. We will rotate between Art, Music and Physical Education roughly every 9-weeks. Check with your student to see which class they are in right now, or click on the "Unified Arts Class Schedule" button at the top of this page.
When we are using the Online Learning Model (No students in the school building at all), class assignments and activities can be found in each student’s Google Classroom MUSIC page. See the links below for more information on finding assignments and how to turn them in.
Students are expected to try each part of the assignment, complete it to the best of his or her ability, and turn in the required work each week. There are 9 assignments per term (1 per week). Assignments should take around 30 minutes for Kindergarten and 1st Grade and 40-50 minutes for 2nd-4th Grades.
Miss Montgomery is available for help from the hours of 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Email is the best way to reach me. anna.montgomery@swcsd.us If you contact me after 3 PM, I will get back to you the next day that school is in session. Thank you for your understanding.
To experience, listen to, learn about and perform music from various professional musicians and composers.
Learn and practice the basic foundations of music including beat, rhythm, pitch, movement, and performance.
To perform using various methods of music making including singing and playing instruments.
To experience music using both intellect and physicality. This includes watching and reflecting on various musical performances and experiencing music through dance using large and fine motor movement.
During HYBRID/BLENDED Learning, my expectations for STUDENTS are:
To do their best when they come to Music class. Some students are not in music right now, as they are in Art of P.E. class. There are optional materials to checkout in the Music Google Classroom if students are interested in trying some things outside of the Music Room, but they are not required/for a grade.
During ONLINE Learning, my expectations for STUDENTS are:
To check your Google Classroom MUSIC page every week for new information and activities.
To TRY each activity with an open mind. Some things may not feel like they come as naturally as others and that is okay! All I ask is for you to try your best. Miss. M. is always available for help if you need it and know that I am cheering for your success!
To check in with Miss M. via google classroom every week to let her know how things are going and if you have any questions. (this is subject to change.)
To be kind an courteous in the Google Classroom. This includes using kind words and not posting anything that isn't music related or helpful to others. Please use this space to ask Miss M. questions, make comments about what you liked about the lesson, and to cheer one another on.
Expectation for Miss Montgomery are:
To check in on all 25 of the Google Classroom Music pages every day (That is how many classes I have for the whole school).
To respond to posts and email within 24 hours. (Please keep in mind that I have care of around 500 students. I will do my best to keep up on things.)
To assign music activities, songs and dancing that are fun, challenging, informative and doable from home.
Hello! My name is Miss Montgomery, but most of my students know me as "Miss M." This will be my 7th year teaching music and my 5th in the South Western City School District. I earned my degree in Music Education at the Capital University Conservatory of Music and I attended high school right here in Southwestern. I LOVE music! My favorite instruments are flute and piano and I love to sing! My favorite food is pancakes and I have two cats, Eliza Rose and Oliver Buster Crash. Though this year isn't going to be a "normal" one, I know it will still be great! I am so excited to make music with you this year! =)
