This course also qualifies students for the Military Enlistment Seal.

This course is designed for students who have completed the normal three-year Naval Science curriculum and desire to continue their association with the program on a credit basis. In addition to academic curriculum, students will perform leadership functions under the supervision of the Naval Science Instructor and his assistant. Enrollment is limited to those students who have demonstrated superior performance in aptitude and military bearing. Although a seminar-type
course, the student will attend class on a routine basis acting as an assistant to the Naval Science instructor on drill days.

Through the vehicles of photography, journalism, technology and design of the school yearbook, students will produce clear and coherent captions and body text. Through caption and body text writing students will demonstrate a command of the conventions of the English language as well as use a wide variety of academic and domain-specific vocabulary. They will be planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach while designing their pages.
Technology will be used to produce and publish the yearbook as well as to interact and collaborate with community members for their input on the content of the book. Students will prepare for and conduct interviews with focused questions, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation. In order to critique their writing and design, staff members will prepare for and participate in a range of conversations and collaborations with diverse partners, in order to build on others’ ideas, express their own clearly and edit their designs. Photography will allow students to integrate and evaluate information presented in diverse media and formats. Make strategic use of digital media and visual displays to express information and enhance understanding of presentations.
