This science experience designed to meet the State of Ohio’s Core requirement for physical science. The course structured around the idea that students learn by doing science and following the scientific method. Students will learn basic chemistry, including atoms, properties of matter, atomic structure, chemical bonds, chemical reactions, acid and bases, and nuclear chemistry. Students will learn basic physics including energy, thermodynamics, forces, motion, and waves. Students will learn about the Earth’s structure and the processes that shape it including plate tectonics as well as the principles of energy, matter, motion, and forces that explain Earth systems, the solar system, and the universe.
Students will take this course if they are in 8th-grade Science during 2023-2024.

Accelerated Biology emphasizes the same concepts as Biology required by state and district standards to prepare students for the state assessment. However, Accelerated Biology goes into greater depth. Enhanced learning taught through laboratory studies designed for students who wish to pursue post-secondary study and/or a possible vocation in a science field. Students should be prepared to pursue in-depth research projects and/or experiment presentations for further enrichment. This is a rigorous, fast paced and in-depth study of the biological sciences.
Students who already have credit for Biology may not apply for this course.
