The purpose of this course is to provide students with instruction in the career planning process. Topics include a comprehensive skills assessment, identification of work and personal values, career interests, work and learning styles, and personality types related to career paths, college majors and academic success. Each student will participate in activities including job shadowing, reality day and will complete college and career-related projects. The student will begin to use the information to evaluate to what extent their career interests realistically match their skills and abilities and will leave the course with a plan for high school and postsecondary success. Coding, or computer programming, is widely recognized as the language of the future. This course teaches the foundations of coding and intended for students with no previous background knowledge of computer programming. In this course, students will learn how to code in a fun and accessible way through a series of learning modules including video tutorials, code examples, programming challenges, and applied exercises.
Students will learn about the dynamics of the Web environment while building basic web pages using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Students will also be introduced to JavaScript programming language, where they will learn the basic units of logic, sequence, selection, loops, and if statements. This course will focus on problem solving and critical thinking skills through student based exercises.
