Chapter Content

Our math text series is broken down into ten separate chapters. The chapters cover one or more of the Massachusetts standards for Mathematics. While each student has a workbook that corresponds with the series, this is only one part of the daily instruction. Listed below, by chapter, is the overall topic of each chapter and then a break-down of the concepts covered in each chapter.

Chapter 1 - number formation, patterns, shapes, odd and even numbers, and partners (addends) of numbers to 10

Chapter 2 - introduction to addition and subtraction and strategies for solving equations, nickels and pennies, and counting on

Chapter 3 - addition with missing addends, story problems with addition, subtraction, and missing addends

Chapter 4 - place value with tens and ones, addition and subtraction with teen numbers, 2-digit numbers

Chapter 5 - dimes and pennies, groups of tens, numbers to 120, partners of 10 and 100, story problems with teen numbers

Chapter 6 - graphs, tables, data comparisons, story problems using data on graphs and tables

(shape rotations and solids are included in this chapter but are taught later in the year)

Chapter 7 - fractions (1/2, 1/3, 1/4), quarters, symmetry, circle graphs, time to the hour and half hour, and calendars

Chapter 8 - counting groups of pennies, nickels, and dimes, coin conversions, double digit addition, story problems with double digit addition

Chapter 9 - story problems with categories, multi-step addition, and mixed operations

Chapter 10 - story problems focused on extra information and finding essential information, measurement with inches, centimeters, and nonstandard units of measure
