A Day in Mrs. Crear's Class

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday Daily Routine:

  • 8:40-8:55 Arrival. The children unpack their backpacks, check their folders, and put their lunchboxes in the bin. Any notes or forms from home are placed in the red basket. Students will get their work baskets, choose a spot, and begin working on morning work.
  • 8:55-9:00 Morning Meeting. We sing our Good Morning Song and do some sort of greeting whether it be give a friend on the rug a compliment, a handshake, or a warm-up to get our bodies ready for the day.
  • 9:00-9:45 Itinerant Special. The children line up and head off to their special.
  • 9:45-10:00 Mindfulness Practice.
  • 10:00-10:05 Morning snack.
  • 10:10-11:30 Literacy. When the children return, we read our Morning Message, hunt for sight words and sentence structure (Uppercase letters at the beginning of a sentence, punctuation at the end, finger spaces between words). We then move into independent work at our seats where they review a previously taught skill. They then join me back on the rug where we practice phonics skills. Next, we do a read aloud and a short whole group lesson. We typically do an engaging learning experience that ties in with the whole group lesson. I like to end literacy with a group game.
  • 11:40-12:10 Lunch.
  • 12:15-12:40 Recess.
  • 12:45-2:00 Mathematics. We use a guided math structure in our classroom. During this time, the students rotate through 5 math stations practicing various mathematical skills. The students choose where to begin and rotate through all 5 (group one being meet with the teacher where we work on our daily math lesson in a small group).
  • 2:00-2:15 Snack.
  • 2:30-3:00 Teacher Directed Centers. These centers vary based on student needs, but are typically play-based.
  • 3:00-3:10 Pack up.
  • 3:10-3:30 Dismissal. Dismissal is SILENT.
