Hello and welcome to the summer edition of Swanmore Speaks.
As we approach the summer holidays, it’s been a busy and unforgettable term at school! Highlights have included exciting events such as Soccer Aid, VE Day commemorations, Sports Day, and the highly successful production of Aladdin. The GCSE exams have now come to an end, marking a significant milestone for our Year 11 students as they prepare to leave us and celebrate their achievements at this year’s prom.
With so much accomplished, pupils and staff alike are ready for a well-deserved summer break. We wish everyone a wonderful holiday filled with sunshine, rest, and quality time with family and friends.
Have you visited Sam's Sunflowers? With hoedowns, line dancing, dog nights, swing grills, live music, opportunities for open stage and of course their famous sunflower fields and Maze, Hayling Island has a huge amount to offer for all the family!
Get ready for Southampton Pride 2025. With the sun shining brighter and the days getting longer, it's the perfect time to join in on the festivities. Dance in the streets, enjoy colourful parades, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere with friends, family, and allies.
Head to the River Hamble for a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure! Whether you're paddleboarding, kayaking, or simply soaking in the stunning scenery, there's something for everyone. Glide along the peaceful waters, spot wildlife, or just unwind by the riverbank. With plenty of spots for a picnic or a quiet moment, it’s the ideal place to make the most of the outdoors.
This term, our school community came together to honour VE Day, reminding us all how shared experiences and creative learning can boost our wellbeing. The star of the show was the Year 7 field party, which brilliantly recreated the cheerful street parties of 1945. Year 7's designed and wore their own patriotic accessories, from hand-painted flags and paper hats to colourful bunting - even creating homemade medals thanks to Mr Valentine.
The celebrations were accompanied by uplifting performances from the Chamber Choir, who sang wartime favourites, while students tackled Enigma-code escape-room challenges and tested their knowledge in lively World War II quizzes. One particularly heartwarming moment was a group of friends spreading out a classic picnic on the grass, laughter echoing across the field as they shared sandwiches and stories.
The Humanities Department transformed their corridor with paper chains, historical photographs, and personal testimonials about VE Day. A vision of red, white and blue. In every classroom, lessons began with a quick WWII starter, and the day ended with Winston Churchill's iconic end-of-war speech live - played exactly 80 years after the original broadcast, connecting past and present.
Even lunchtime embraced the theme: our wonderful kitchen team offered free samples of Spam (a true wartime treat!), alongside red-white-and-blue cakes and a hearty corned-beef hash. One could argue the day was fully encompassing the end of war celebrations of 80 years ago.
A huge thank-you to the kitchen staff, Brett, the site team, Year 7 tutors, and the Humanities Department - your dedication made our VE Day celebrations memorable, joyful, and meaningful for everyone.
Soccer Aid has been a huge success this term, filled with fun, excitement, and fantastic fundraising! From thrilling penalty shootouts against staff to energetic obstacle courses and impressive crossbar challenges, the activities have kept everyone on their toes. The weather has been perfect all week, adding to the great atmosphere, and the kids have absolutely loved every minute. Best of all, it's all been in support of UNICEF, helping raise vital funds for children around the world.
What a night for our Year 11s! We celebrated the end of their exams and time at Swanmore College in style on Wednesday with a fantastic prom.
The arrivals were show-stopping, with students arriving in everything from limousines to tractors! Everyone looked incredible in their prom attire. The night was filled with fun – 4 hours of dancing, delicious food, a fun fair, and more! We know there were plenty of smiles and laughter.
We're so proud of everything our Year 11s have achieved, and wish them all the best for the future!
Swanmore College buzzed with excitement on Thursday, 26 June 2025, as we celebrated our annual Rewards Funfair! This much-anticipated event is a highlight of the summer term, designed to recognise and reward the hard work, positive behaviour, and dedication of our pupils throughout the year. The fun didn’t stop with the students - after school, staff had their turn to enjoy the festivities too. Laughter echoed across the fairground as teachers and support staff hopped on the rides, shared snacks, and embraced the joyful atmosphere alongside their colleagues. It was a perfect way to unwind, celebrate the end of term, and strengthen the sense of community that makes Swanmore so special.
On Monday, 23 June, our talented Music Department delivered a spectacular Summer Concert, showcasing the dedication and hard work of our exceptional students. The evening featured an impressive range of performances, from the Main Choir and Chamber Choir to rock bands, jazz ensembles, solos, and duets—offering two hours of outstanding entertainment.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our outstanding Head Boy and Head Girl for expertly compering the event, and to all the friends, family, and students who joined us to enjoy a captivating mix of musical theatre, folk, classical, film themes, rock, and pop music. We are incredibly proud of everyone involved!
Our students were thrilled to participate in a special dance workshop led by Richard Womersley, the actor who portrayed Ken in the blockbuster Barbie movie. It was an unforgettable experience, and everyone had an incredible time learning new moves from a real-life Ken!

SwanPride continues to meet on Mondays in the pupil centre, during tutor time. We are doing a drop-in session the first Monday of each month. The ambassadors sent out a quiz for the school relating to LGBTQ+ and the Greek mythology, which was a fun and interesting task to complete in tutor time.

Pupils are invited to join our Neurodiversity Ambassadors group (NDA) on a Tuesday lunchtime in R02.
This is a group that will allow its members to connect with fellow peers (neurodiverse or not) and supportive allies. It aims to help its members to develop and hone new skills in a supportive and friendly environment, and to build confidence and pride in students’ neurodiverse identities. It would be lovely to see a group of like-minded pupils come together and join in with the fun and activities.
We are currently designing a poster to go on the school Facebook page.

Our new Year 7 Forum have been meeting fortnightly at tutor time. Members of the main Anti-Bullying Committee planned and delivered their initial training on Anti-Bullying at Swanmore to our new Forum members. These Forum members are busy planning ways to work with pupils in Year 7 and raise awareness of how to seek help with bullying issues. Our Forum members have already brought along a range of new ideas which we are integrating into our plans for 2025-2026. We are looking forward to the Forum members joining the main Anti-Bullying Committee in September. Our Forum members proudly wear our Year 7 Anti-Bullying Forum Badges on their blazers.
Our Anti-Bullying Committee also recently planned a Connect session for all tutor groups based on raising awareness of the nine protected characteristics. Pupils were also asked to write positive messages relating to these characteristics which the Committee members will be putting into a display – watch this space!
We were delighted to be invited to the year 6 Induction Day to speak to our new Year 7 cohort about Anti-Bullying at Swanmore. Six committee members presented information on what the committee does and how pupils can be involved in September.
