OCTOBER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
1.) My Brother's Table Annual Walk
On Sunday, 10/25, from 1:30-3:00 pm, MBT is having their 10 Million Meals Walk, celebrating their having served 10 million meals since opening in 1982. To give a little perspective, when the Table first opened, they served 4 million meals from 1982-2020, and since COVID, they have served one million meals per year, reflecting their rapidly growing need in the community. They do very important work, supplying food and medical resources to people living through hardship.
The Table does not accept/seek governmental funding, so they rely on private donations and volunteers to support their cause. The purpose of this walk is to bring people together to provide donations and raise awareness of the important work the Table does. Many schools locally participate in this Walk as well, so I decided to create a team for our Swampscott Schools. I have set a goal for SPS to raise $1,000. MBT is aiming to raise $40,000 altogether and has already raised over $13,000. Of course, donating is not required. This event is open to everyone and is a great community event, with students, faculty, and families walking together to support this cause.
Check-in for the walk begins at 1:30 at First Church in Swampscott (40 Monument Ave), and the walk goes from 2:00-3:00. It's a 3-mile walk, starting down at the Church, extending down the Swampscott/Lynn shoreline, then looping back to the Church.
Anyone can join our team by clicking REGISTER, JOIN A TEAM, and entering our team name 'SWAMPSCOTT PUBLIC SCHOOLS'. Families can choose to donate to our team if they wish (everything gets donated to the Table), or they can simply register with our team without donating.
2. SES Trunk or Treat Event on Sat, 10/17, from 3:00-5:00pm
The SES PTO is looking for 10 SMS and SHS Student Leaders to help with this year's Trunk or Treat Event at Swampscott Elementary School, happening from 3:00-5:00pm. Here, student leaders will engage with elementary students and their families by leading face painting, lawn games, and other fun activities.
3. Anchor Pantry Unload and Stock on Thurs, 10/8, from 3:00-4:00pm
Anchor Pantry is looking for 8 volunteers on Thursday, 10/8, from 3:00-4:00 to unload and stock Anchor's monthly delivery from Greater Boston Food Bank.
4. Anchor Pantry Food Drive at Stop and Shop on Sat, 10/10, from 9:00-1:00pm
On Sat, 10/10, we will be going to Stop and Shop from 9:00am-1:00pm to collect donations from shoppers to support Swampscott's Anchor Food Pantry. I will need a minimum of 12 volunteers, at least 6 for the morning shift (9am-11am), and at least 6 for the afternoon shift (11am-1pm). After each shift, I will need each group of volunteers to go back to the pantry to unload and stock the items that will be collected. If you would like to volunteer on 10/10, please sign up for a shift.
5. Serve at My Brother's Table on Thurs, 10/29, from 3:30-6:00pm
