LED Acrylic Sign 

Objective: use Adobe Illustrator, Onshape, and Laser Engraver to design and create LED acrylic sign to be sold at school store. 

Student Goals:

• Improve upon digital fabrication skills with Adobe Illustrator

• Establish strong portfolio habits and track design process

• Indepently operate Laser Engraver

• Update and manage website/portolio 

Criteria/Constraints:

• designed in Adobe Illustrator

• Must fit withing acrylic outline shape ( see below) 

• **if creating custom outline: acrylic must fit into plastic LED base**

  • 2  3/16th  x 13/16th 

• Black or grays only ( this is engraving not cutting)

• Student will independently set up and perform function with laser engraver 

Instructions: 

1. Sketch and research design ideas

2. Create new design using Adobe Illustrator. Make sure new drawing will fit proportionally on template 

a. Use calipers and/or ruler to get measurements 

b. Remember to Live Trace any imported images (check Resources tab for this)

4. Save as .ai file to computer and import into your Manufacturing folder in drive. 

5.Import design into Ruby, laser software and run the machine to engrave both sides of the dog tag 

6. Complete Project portfolio page and add to website
