Capstone and internship course is designed to give students coursework and experience in the high-demand industry of advanced manufacturing and instill them with strong employability skills. We have strong partnerships with employers in order to expose students to career options and help them develop knowledge and skills related to the industry. Through this course, students will complete a 100-hour internship or capstone project. This course will be offered during the last period of semester one and periods 4,5,6, and 7 during semester two. Students who participate in the internship option will work offsite with local manufacturing partners applying skills learned in their technical courses. Capstone students will complete an extensive project that focuses on solving a problem for the community. These students will have industry mentors that guide them through the design process as they work towards completing their project.
There will be opportunities to gain industry recognized credentials such as OSHA 10, and Onshape certifications. Students will participate in off-site field trips/experiences, and exposure to professional mentorship. In addition to the internship and capstone experience, students will participate in compulsory seminar-style supplementary programming where they will cover professional support and coaching, professional finance management, applying/interviewing for jobs, post-secondary planning, networking, portfolio-making, advocating, and reflections. This course culminates with an internship capstone presentation and extensive portfolio documenting their progress through the pathway.
