OCTOBER OPPORTUNITIES: 1.) My Brother's Table 9 Million Meals Walk on Sun, 10/19, from 1:30-3:00pmOn Sunday, 10/19, from 1:30-3:00pm, MBT is having their 9 Million Meals Walk, celebrating their having served 9 million meals since opening in 1982. To give a little perspective, when the Table first opened, they served 4 million meals from 1982-2020, and since COVID, they have served one million meals per year, reflecting their rapidly growing need in the community. They do very important work, supplying food and medicinal resources to people living through hardship.
The Table does not accept/seek governmental funding, so they rely on private donations and volunteers to support their cause. The purpose of this walk is to bring people together to supply donations and raise awareness for the important work that the Table does. Many schools locally participate in this Walk as well, so I decided to create a team for our Swampscott schools. I have made a goal of SPS raising $1,000. MBT is aiming to raise $40,000 all together, and have raised $6,000 already. Of course, donating is not required. This event is open to everyone, and is a great community event; students, faculty, and families all walking together to support this cause.
Check-in for the walk begins at 1:30 at First Church in Swampscott (40 Monument Ave) and the walk goes from 2:00-3:00. It's a 3 mile walk, starting down at the Church, extending down the Swampscott/Lynn shoreline, then looping back to the Church.
Anyone can join our team by clicking REGISTER, JOIN A TEAM, and entering our team name 'SWAMPSCOTT PUBLIC SCHOOLS'. Families can choose to donate to our team if they wish (everything gets donated to the Table), or they can simply just register with our team without donating.
