SEPTEMBER OPPORTUNITIES: 1.) SEF Back to School Event on 9/13The Swampscott Education Foundation (SEF) is hosting a back to school celebration for SPS students on Sun, 9/13, from 3:00-6:00pm, at Linscott Park. The SEF is responsible for raising funds throughout the year to help support the academic excellence of Swampscott Public Schools. In particular, at this event, the SEF will be running food stations, entertainment, swag and some fun lawn games/activities that we are hoping some good SMS/SHS leaders can help to facilitate. This is a great opportunity to support the community, and learn about/get involved with SEF. We need many SMS and SHS volunteers to help, so please sign up if you are able to! 2.) Anchor Pantry Unload and Stock Anchor Pantry is looking for 8 volunteers on Thursday, 9/10, from 3:00-4:00 to unload and stock Anchor's monthly delivery from Greater Boston Food Bank. OCTOBER OPPORTUNITIES: 1.) My Brother's Table Annual Walk
On Sunday, 10/25, from 1:30-3:00 pm, MBT is having their 10 Million Meals Walk, celebrating their having served 10 million meals since opening in 1982. To give a little perspective, when the Table first opened, they served 4 million meals from 1982-2020, and since COVID, they have served one million meals per year, reflecting their rapidly growing need in the community. They do very important work, supplying food and medical resources to people living through hardship.
The Table does not accept/seek governmental funding, so they rely on private donations and volunteers to support their cause. The purpose of this walk is to bring people together to provide donations and raise awareness of the important work the Table does. Many schools locally participate in this Walk as well, so I decided to create a team for our Swampscott Schools. I have set a goal for SPS to raise $1,000. MBT is aiming to raise $40,000 altogether and has already raised over $7,000. Of course, donating is not required. This event is open to everyone and is a great community event, with students, faculty, and families walking together to support this cause.
Check-in for the walk begins at 1:30 at First Church in Swampscott (40 Monument Ave), and the walk goes from 2:00-3:00. It's a 3-mile walk, starting down at the Church, extending down the Swampscott/Lynn shoreline, then looping back to the Church.
Anyone can join our team by clicking REGISTER, JOIN A TEAM, and entering our team name 'SWAMPSCOTT PUBLIC SCHOOLS'. Families can choose to donate to our team if they wish (everything gets donated to the Table), or they can simply register with our team without donating.
