Take a look around our school

Learning in the Year R Outside Area

The pictures below show our Year R pupils taking part in a range of learning activities in our outside provision. We have activities linked to all areas of the curriculum and learning including a mud kitchen, water activities, a construction area, physical development and plenty of opportunities for the children to explore creatively and using their imagination. Alongside this we also have learning activities linked to early writing, developing a sense of number and activities linked to their topic.

Learning inside our Year R Classrooms

These picture show our Year R pupils learning inside their classrooms. Our pupils have a daily phonics and maths input led by their class teacher and teaching assistants and there are learning opportunities across the curriculum built in to fun and engaging activities linked to a core text and the topic the children are learning about. We take the children's interests on board in our planning so these activities change to meet the children's needs and ideas.

Forest School

Over the past few years we have been working hard to develop a Forest School provision on our school site. We have a large school field and have a designated area for our forest school. The Forest School enables our children to develop a wide range of outdoor learning skills, knowledge of wildlife and survival and essential social and communication skills. We have trained forest school leaders who deliver these sessions and they run throughout the school year. We are really excited to announce that for next year, we have our very own EYFS forest school site linked to the provision and children will be able to access this throughout their time in EYFS.

Indoor Swimming Pool

At Westlands Primary we are lucky enough to have our own swimming pool in the school building. This means all our pupils can access swimming lessons with a trained swimming teacher throughput their time at school. Children in Years 2 - 6 have weekly swimming lessons and we offer parent swimming sessions once a term to EYFS and year 1 children. This helps support children's confidence in the water.
