We are very lucky here at Westlands Primary School as we have a lovely large, natural outside area for the children in reception to enjoy.
We operate a free - flow learning environment where the children have direct access to the outside area from their classrooms and are able to explore, investigate and use their imagination.
We encourage children to learn outside as much as possible and our staff ensure the area is well resourced and set up to meet all of the needs of the children.
Activities will always match the focus of the indoor environment as well as providing open ended opportunities for the children to explore.
We have a large sandpit, large construction resources, water play, bikes, opportunities to write such as clipboards, blackboards, chalks and our own allotment area. We even have chickens in our outside area and we encourage the children to collect the eggs and take care of them.
We encourage children to go out in all weathers and ask that they all have a pair of wellington boots at school. We do have wet weather clothes to provide for the real muddy days!
