As the curtain begins to fall on another academic year, I would like to draw attention to a remarkable achievement by our students here at Sinarmas World Academy.
Amid their busy schedules this past term, our students found the time and heart to participate in the Student Rebuild initiative—an inspiring global movement dedicated to empowering young people and fostering empathy around the world. In doing so, they demonstrated one of the most important attributes of the IB Learner Profile: Caring.
Through their creativity and compassion, our students contributed poems, stories, songs, and artwork to a campaign that has raised more than USD 1 million globally. We are proud to share that the SWA community contributed USD 420 towards this extraordinary effort.
In a world that can sometimes seem divided, acts of empathy and understanding matter more than ever. By lending their voices and talents to this cause, our students have shown that meaningful change often begins with small actions and big hearts.
G10 ELL students wrote and produced an original song for the occasion. Please check G10-Song
G6 collaborate on their poetic artwork, where students designed a handprint with their own original poem and drawings that reflect kindness, individuality, unity, and respect.
The sounds and sights rush into him. The electric buzzing of the bikes and cars echoes through the massive chamber. The ceilings are high in the sky, with banners and advertisements draped over the support beams. In the sea of people, Jamal takes a right turn into a coffee shop. The brass bells hanging on the vintage wooden door jingle as Jamal closes the door. The aroma of freshly roasted coffee bursts into his nostrils. The sound of the ship fades away; all that is left is the hiss of a kettle and the muted chatter of a group of people playing chess.

Dear Grade 11 Parents/Guardians,
As our Grade 12 students have now completed their graduation ceremony and are preparing to begin their university journey, our Grade 11 students are also getting ready to move forward into their final year of the IB Diploma Programme. Our Grade 11 students have recently completed their Semester 2 examinations from 26 May to 4 June, following a week of assessment preparation from 19 to 25 May. This has been an important academic milestone, and we are proud of their effort, growth, and resilience throughout the year.
The first day of school for the new academic year will be 3 August 2026. When students return, Semester 1 will be a very important and busy period, with major IB deadlines, Extended Essay work, Internal Assessments (IAs), TOK, university application preparation, and college application season, especially from October to December.
Therefore, the summer break is an excellent opportunity for students to make strong progress, especially on the 4000 word Extended Essay, which they have already started, as well as some of their Internal Assessments (IAs). Completing a substantial part of these tasks during the break will help reduce pressure when they return to school.
Some important upcoming deadlines include:
We kindly ask parents and guardians to encourage students to use the summer break wisely. A steady and responsible approach during the holiday will make a significant difference when they return in August.
Thank you very much for your continued support. We look forward to working together as our students enter this final and most important stage of their DP journey.
Dear Grade 12 Parents/Guardians,
What a wonderful milestone we have just celebrated together!
On behalf of the school, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all Grade 12 parents and guardians for your incredible support throughout your children’s IBDP journey. It has truly been a privilege for us to walk alongside them, witness their growth, celebrate their achievements, and support them through the many challenges and unforgettable moments of the Diploma Programme.
We would also like to thank you for your warm support during the Graduation Ceremony on 29 May 2026. It was a beautiful, joyful, and meaningful celebration of our students’ hard work, resilience, friendships, and readiness to take their next exciting step into university life.
We are so proud of the Class of 2026. They are now ready to move forward to universities around the world, carrying with them not only academic learning, but also the values, confidence, and spirit they have developed during their time with us.
Please kindly note that the IB Diploma Programme results will be released on 6 July 2026. Students will be able to access their results through the official IB results link (https://candidates.ibo.org) using their individual code and PIN, which I will provide to them before the release date.
Once again, thank you for your trust, encouragement, and partnership. We are grateful to have been part of this important journey with your children, and we look forward to celebrating their continued success beyond SWA.

Wrapping Up the Year
Grade 12 has officially turned the final page on their SWA story. After completing their IB exams, they celebrated with graduation and a lovely dinner last Friday. It was wonderful to see them laughing, sharing memories, and looking ahead with excitement. Watching them walk across the stage felt like the satisfying ending to a book they’ve been writing together for years.
From the English Department, we’ve loved being part of their journey. Whether they were analysing complex texts, crafting persuasive essays, or finding their unique voice in creative writing, these students have grown not just as learners but as thoughtful communicators and storytellers. Their time at SWA has shown how powerful language can be – in shaping ideas, building connections, and expressing who they are.
Meanwhile, our students in Grades 6–11 are right in the middle of their own important chapter: exam season. It’s a time for showing what they’ve learned, sharpening their analytical skills, and practising the clear thinking and careful expression we value in English class. We’re proud of the effort they’re putting in and the way they’re building confidence with every paragraph and every discussion.
To all our families – whether you’re celebrating a big milestone or simply making it through a busy week – we hope you enjoy a restful break ahead. Read something fun, write a few lines in a journal, or simply soak up some stories together. We can’t wait to start the next chapter with everyone refreshed and ready in the new school year!

This month, Grade 11 Chemistry students explored chemical kinetics through the engaging Iodine Clock Reaction experiment. As part of the Kinetics unit, students investigated how concentration affects reaction rate by preparing solutions of varying concentrations and observing how quickly the “clock” reaction changed colour.
The activity transformed a complex scientific concept into a creative and interactive challenge. Students tested not only their understanding of reaction mechanisms but also their laboratory skills, particularly the accurate preparation of concentrated solutions to ensure the reaction occurred at precise times.
Following the experiment, students analysed their findings by constructing graphs and calculating reaction rates. This strengthened their analytical and critical-thinking skills while reinforcing key concepts required in IB Diploma Programme Chemistry. Through inquiry, collaboration, and precision, students experienced how scientific investigation brings chemistry to life.

The Chinese curriculum places particular emphasis on practical language application and cultural understanding, with a progression structure carefully designed to suit the learning characteristics of students in a multilingual environment.
The Chinese Teaching Team has developed a highly tailored plan based on the curriculum standards and the actual learning needs of our students: Grade 6 focuses on character recognition, commonly used vocabulary, and basic sentence structures, using engaging exercises to consolidate foundational knowledge; Grades 7 and 8 emphasise reading comprehension and daily writing skills, strengthening abilities in information extraction and logical expression; for Grades 9 through 11, the curriculum extends further to include literary appreciation, argumentative writing, and practical composition, with a focus on enhancing comprehensive language proficiency.
From building basic skills to advancing higher-level competencies, teachers and students are working together to make Chinese learning easier, more engaging, and more rewarding.

Expressing Lifestyle Choices Through Lyrics and Video
As part of their inquiry into lifestyle, Grade 11 Indonesian B students turned their ideas into meaningful creative action. They developed a project in the form of music videos to communicate messages connected to everyday life. Instead of creating original melodies, students wrote their own song lyrics and adapted them to existing music tracks. The process involved selecting a lifestyle issue, writing lyrics, planning visual concepts, performing the songs, and producing a music video.
Through this project, students explored themes such as limiting screen time and reducing excessive gadget use, maintaining personal and environmental cleanliness, building healthier habits, and making choices that support overall well-being. By combining student-written lyrics with familiar music and visual storytelling, they expressed their perspectives in a creative and engaging way. This experience also strengthened their language, collaboration, and communication skills while showing how creativity can inspire positive lifestyle changes.

Grade 10 Global Perspectives students have enjoyed a well-deserved break from their regular classes, as many of them have been studying and preparing for their IGCSE examinations. In addition, many students have been taking online courses, as well as participating in a weekly writing course with Mr. Greg and Ms. Fiona, to familiarise themselves with the text types that will be covered in Grade 11 English courses.
The students will hopefully learn to analyse and/or create the following text types: satirical cartoons, opinion columns, infographics, and websites. Much of the work they are completing is being done independently and, to some extent, at their own pace. They appear to be making good use of this time by sharing their perspectives on their learning and discussing the goals they have set for themselves for next year. Regular IGCSE Examinations still continue and will finish June 9th.

Throughout our swimming unit, Grades 6–9 students have been developing their swimming skills, water confidence, and overall aquatic fitness through consistent practice, feedback, and self-reflection. Students created personalised training plans, set individual goals, and regularly monitored their progress, making adjustments as needed to support their learning and improvement.
In addition to skill development, students participated in a variety of engaging water-based activities, including water polo, frisbee games, and retrieval challenges. These activities promoted teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and enjoyment in the water while reinforcing swimming competencies.
As the unit concludes, students have completed reflections on their goals, achievements, and growth throughout the learning process. We are proud of the perseverance, resilience, and positive attitudes demonstrated by our students as they challenged themselves and celebrated their personal successes in a supportive learning environment.

Among all forms of artistic expression, singing remains one of the most powerful ways to communicate emotion through music. In a choir, different voices unite to deliver one shared message, teaching collaboration, empathy, discipline, and togetherness while creating meaningful connections through sound.
This spirit was beautifully reflected during the Graduation Day celebration on Friday, 29 May 2026, as the MYP Choir, consisting of students from Grades 6 to 9 and supported by several Grade 10 singers, united on stage to perform Why We Sing as a heartfelt farewell for the Grade 12 graduates. Through the song’s meaningful message, students expressed how music can inspire hope, unity, gratitude, and love beyond words.
The celebration became even more emotional when Grade 12 students dedicated a touching mashup of Because You Loved Me, You’re the Inspiration, and Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love for You, specially arranged as an expression of gratitude and love for their parents. In return, parents responded through music themselves, with fathers singing Tomorrow Will Be Better alongside mothers accompanying with a graceful kolintang ensemble, proving music’s extraordinary power to unite hearts across generations.

G7 Visual Arts Self-Portraits
The focus for our Grade 7 students' artworks in Term 4 was creating self-portraits inspired by the art-making practices of master artists. They learned how to adopt techniques from iconic figures and use them to make their own artworks more visually dynamic. Students drew inspiration from the swirling backgrounds of Vincent van Gogh, the magical realism of Frida Kahlo, and the expressive use of colour by Henri Matisse and Marc Chagall.
The project began with learning about the history and art-making practices of Chuck Close. He frequently used the technique of incorporating a grid to scale up images, which is similar to the art-making practice of ancient Egyptians. Students carefully measured lines to draw an accurate grid on A4 paper, allowing them to precisely scale up their reference photographs. This stage highlighted the importance of measurement in achieving correct facial proportions.
After sketching the face, students developed a background using their chosen master artwork as a creative starting point. They then applied colour techniques matching their inspiration using their choice of media. While many students initially hesitated to experiment with abstract facial tones, they learned that growing as an artist requires being a "risk-taker," pushing past their comfort zones to embrace bold, new methods.
On Friday, 29 May 2026, our school community gathered to celebrate the successful graduation of the Grade 12 class. Heartfelt congratulations go out to all of our graduates; we are immensely proud of your hard work, dedication, and the unwavering integrity you have demonstrated throughout your academic journey. As you stand on the precipice of your future endeavours, the faculty and staff wish you nothing but the absolute best. In this rapidly evolving world, particularly amidst the staggering advancement of technology, we hope you will carry forward your resilient spirit and steadfast values. Remember that true education is not merely defined by a degree or grades but by the critical skills, adaptability, and character you have practised and honed here at SWA. It is these enduring qualities, far more than any piece of paper, that will remain useful and guide you successfully for the rest of your life. Congraduations, Grade 12!
