CONGRATULATIONS
SWA FLL Explore Team
Written by Ms. Kelly
The First Lego League (FLL) is a global robotics competition that challenges young students to apply science, engineering, and technology skills to real-world problems. The competition involves designing and building a robot using Lego technology. The robot must be programmed to complete a series of tasks on a themed playing field. In addition to the robot game, teams are also required to conduct a research project and develop an innovative solution to a real-world problem related to the theme of the competition.
The EY ES department is thrilled to send one FLL Explore Team (Age 6 - 9 years old) for this year’s FLL (Singapore). Representing SWA, the “Cheezy Godzilla” Team consists of Sera K2, Liam G1 and Hayley G1 won the “Most Explosive Award” in this prestigious competition which was held on Monday, 17 April 2023 in Singapore Canadian International School. The “Most Explosive Award” is given to the team who showcase the most explosive ideas, eye-catching team poster, with great team energy. With this year’s theme “Superpower” which challenges teams to think about the superpowers that technology can provide and how they can be used to solve real-world problems, the theme is designed to inspire young students to think about the positive impact that technology can have on society and how they can use their skills to create a better future.
The “Cheezy Godzilla” Team from SWA was able to come up with two different solutions for this year's theme. The team built a waterwheel and a windmill using Lego WeDo and Lego Spike for this project. Those two systems are sustainable and eco-friendly which suits the theme well as our current energy resources such as coal and oil will run out one day. Through this project, the young learners were given an opportunity to solve real-life problems liked adults in their own way.
What a rewarding experience for our young “Roboknights” had? This is the payoff of their hard work, dedication, and a passion for science and technology.
Well done, Cheezy Godzilla!!
SWA FLL Challenge Team
Written by Mr. Vincent
Sinarmas World Academy Middle School & High School (MSHS) is proud to announce that the SWA Team, consisting of Wen Jie (G4), Grant (G8), Ryan (G9), Trevyn (G9), and James (G11), has been selected to participate in this year's FLL competition in Singapore.
The team achieved the runner-up position for the Robot Design Award, an esteemed award that recognizes the team's excellent and innovative design of their robot. Judges assess the robot's mechanical design, programming, and creativity when evaluating the entries. The Robot Design Award aims to inspire participants to apply their creative thinking and problem-solving skills to the design and construction of their robot.
The FLL 2023 theme, "Superpower," challenges teams to consider how technology can provide superpowers and help solve real-world issues. This recognition is a significant achievement for MSHS and the SWA Team, reflecting their hard work, dedication, and passion for science and technology.
The FLL competition offers a unique opportunity for young learners to use their skills and think like adults to solve real-life issues. The SWA Team's success is a source of pride for MSHS, and we commend them for their outstanding performance.
Congratulations to both SWA Teams!
PASCAL Contest
Written by Mr.Lukas
Sinarmas World Academy students have once again made their mark in the world of mathematics by achieving distinction in the Pascal Contest 2023. Pascal Contest is a mathematics contest held annually by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) University of Waterloo Canada.
The Pascal contest is an excellent opportunity for students to explore the potential of mathematics and its role in their lives. By participating in the contest, the students are exposed to a range of curriculum concepts which can help build confidence and inspire students to get excited about math, ultimately leading them to pursue further studies in related fields.
Congratulations to Janice, Audric, and Trevyn from grade 9 who achieved distinction in the Pascal Contest 2023, ranked in the top 25 percent of the contestants from around the world who joined the contest.
The students’ distinction in the Pascal Contest is a remarkable achievement that deserves recognition and congratulations. It is a testament to the student's hard work and dedication, and it is a source of hope for the future. The students have demonstrated exceptional problem-solving abilities, logical thinking, and ingenuity, skills that will undoubtedly benefit them in their future endeavours. Congratulations to the students on their well-deserved achievement!
WMI 2023 Preliminary Round Indonesia
Congratulations to 10 Sinarmas World Academy students who achieved Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in the World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) 2023 Preliminary Round Indonesia, competing with thousands of other participants from schools around Indonesia.
WMI is the first international mathematics competition founded by Taiwan. It gathers institutes and organisations worldwide that make efforts in promoting and popularising mathematics. Through interacting with other math-loving students that represent their countries, students can expand their world-views, experience different cultures, and thus their horizons, as well as their future, will be broadened.
WMI has gathered organisations from over 29 countries, United States, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, China, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Russia, Indonesia, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Nigeria, India, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Macao, and Iran that give impetus to math education and popularisation.
We are so proud of you! Keep up the good work for the next stage!
RAMADAN FOOD DISTRIBUTION
Written by Ms. Lisa
During the final week of Ramadan, SWA embraced the spirit of giving by sharing the joy of the season with those in need. The staff, helped by several students, organised a food drive and delivered 150 pax of meal boxes and takjils to people passing by outside the SWA campus gates. The recipients ranged from Gojek and mass transportation drivers to street workers. They were so happy and grateful to receive the packages, which would help them break their fast at home.
This act of kindness also had a positive impact on the students involved. They learned the value of sharing and caring for others, and they realised that even a small act of kindness can bring a big smile to someone's face. It's amazing what a difference we can make when we come together and spread love and positivity in our communities!

SWA LITERACY PROGRAMME
Your partner in building a strong foundation in English literacy skills is here. Join the SWA Literacy Programme! The SWA Literacy Programme features JOLLY PHONICS for ages 3-6. It is a comprehensive programme that employs a child-centred and multisensory approach to teaching the 42 sounds of the alphabet, which motivates children to build words as early as possible.
The programme is also offered to Elementary School students aged 7-11 years old. In this programme, literacy skills, (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), are further developed through exposure to stories of various genres. The language exercises are combined with activities that focus on comprehension skills (eg. summarising, inferencing, comparing and contrasting) that they can apply to all reading situations.
