FLAME 2025: Circle of Harmony
On 14-18 March 2025, SWA proudly presented its annual FLAMEβFestival of the Arts and Music Exploration, a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and artistic excellence. This yearβs theme, βThe Circle of Harmony,β was inspired by the chromatic circle, symbolising unity in diversity, where each note, like each individual, contributes to a greater musical balance. Through music, visual arts, and performance, FLAME 2025 embodied the essence of teamwork, perseverance, and artistic expression.

Congratulations to our choir students for their hard work, artistry, and the unforgettable performance that resonated deeply with all who attended.

My body of work highlights the pervasive issue of marine degradation, which investigates themes of pollution, habitat destruction, and overconsumption. I hope to convey a transformative message to the audience to urge crucial activism and awareness in regards to what goes on below our oceans. My works employ a range of traditional and digital mediums, incorporating formal qualities such as texture, colour, scale, and composition to immerse viewers in an experience that is unsettling, reflective, and visually captivating to urge action to be taken. (Jasmine - Grade 12)
My art exhibition revolves around childhood memories, reflecting the small, joyful moments that remain vivid over time. Each piece captures my personal experiences, highlighting how memories shape who we are and how even the simplest moments hold lasting significance. Symbols like dead flowers in soft pastels convey the theme of memory preservation, showing how we carry appreciation, love, and growth with us, even as we change. (Rachel - Grade 12)
My body of work explores a journey of chasing dreams intertwined with surrealist dreamscapes and discovering identities. The narrative is that as people look at the artworks from one another, they will find that they depict my development through different visual representations. I hope the audience view my artworks in detail with realistic expression, notice my resemblance in figures, and realise the dream is discovering identities as well. (So Young - Grade 12)
Grade 7 students learnt the characteristics of art styles by studying the characteristics of Chinese Peasant paintings. They then used their creativity to produce their own artwork, focusing on the theme of "daily life." Drawing inspiration from the Chinese Peasant style, they incorporated repeated objects to convey movement, bright and unconventional colours, and distinctive flat shapes to add unique and captivating details to their pieces.
FLAME 2025 would not have been possible without the dedication and support of our teachers, students, parents, volunteers, and school leadership. Your hard work and passion brought this festival to life, reminding us that true harmony is achieved through collaboration and perseverance. Thank you for being part of this extraordinary celebration of music and the arts.

MANAGING SCREEN TIME AND MAINTAINING DIGITAL BOUNDARIES AT HOME
Managing screen time starts with setting a clear limit based on your childβs age and needs. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (2024) suggests screen time guidelines:
It is important to set the rules and implement them consistently. Establishing screen-free zones, like during family meals or before bedtime, helps create healthy habits. Showing our children the appropriate examples of behaviour is also part of establishing the rules. When having the conversation, make sure we maintain eye contact and are free from distractions and using devices.
Beyond limiting screen time, parents can encourage digital literacy and online safety. UNICEF suggests some strategies for the family on how to maximise the use of the digital world while at the same time protecting them from the harmful effects.Β
