Dear Grade 11 parents/guardians,
Grade 11 students have now reached an important phase in their IB Diploma journey as they actively engage in the Extended Essay (EE) process. As a compulsory, externally assessed component of the IB Diploma Programme, the EE requires students to undertake an in-depth independent research inquiry, culminating in a 4,000-word academic essay. This rigorous process demands critical engagement with a chosen research question, synthesis of diverse sources, and the formulation of well-substantiated arguments, all while adhering to academic integrity and formal research conventions. The EE fosters advanced research, analytical, and evaluative skills, preparing students for the demands of higher education and lifelong inquiry.
At this stage, our students are focusing on the research phase, refining their research questions, gathering relevant sources, and beginning to structure their investigations. The upcoming months will be crucial as they further develop their arguments and draft their work. Teachers and supervisors will continue to guide them through this process, ensuring they receive the necessary support and feedback.
As we approach the term break from 22 March to 6 April, Grade 11 students are encouraged to take advantage of this time to consolidate their learning, review key concepts from their courses, and refine their research for the EE. While revision is important, maintaining a balanced approach with adequate rest and well-being will help them stay motivated.

Interdisciplinary Unit in MYP 5
Written by Mr. Rajesh
The Interdisciplinary Unit in the MYP helps students connect knowledge from different subjects. It encourages critical thinking, creativity, and real-world problem-solving. By working across disciplines, students gain a deeper understanding of concepts and develop communication and collaboration skills.
Students in Grade 10 (MYP 5) worked together on a storytelling project that integrated Chinese, Indonesian, Korean, and Computer Science. They wrote stories in these languages, focusing on cultural elements. Computer Science students brought these stories to life using coding, animation, and other creative methods. All students collaborated to build creative presentations to showcase their work.
The unit explored how storytelling can cross language and digital barriers. The focus was on communication, cultural identity, and digital design. Students developed skills in scriptwriting, character sketches, voiceover, and animations using digital tools. The project concluded with a community presentation, where students shared their work with the school on Thursday, 20th February.
A big thank you to the teachers who made this IDU possible: Xia Lao Shi, Mr. Ahmad, Charles Lao Shi, Ms. Yulia, and Mr. Lee.

MUSIC
Written by Mr. Freddy
This term, Grade 8 Music students embarked on a unique collaborative project with the PSD (Personal, Social, and Development) subject, creating original compositions centered around the CLAYGO (Clean As You Go) campaign. This initiative encourages students to be mindful of cleanliness and hygiene, fostering a positive habit of tidying up their surroundings—starting from school and extending to the wider community. Through music, students aim to inspire younger generations to be more responsible and attentive in keeping their environment clean and organized. This project will be graded in both Music and PSD, assessing students on their creativity, collaboration, and ability to convey meaningful messages through music.
Creating a meaningful song required students to carefully craft lyrics that effectively deliver a message of awareness while remaining simple, catchy, and easy to understand. They also focused on composing memorable and engaging melodies, using simple chord progressions and fun, ear-catching tunes that appeal to all age groups within the school. Some groups used digital music apps to arrange their pieces, while others recorded using live instruments, experimenting with different harmonies and musical textures to enhance their compositions.
Beyond songwriting, this project fostered creative thinking, collaboration, and perseverance. Despite varying levels of musical experience, students worked together to refine their songs, ensuring their compositions were both impactful and enjoyable. Their hard work will soon be showcased in the upcoming PSD assembly, where they will present their original CLAYGO-themed songs live, spreading an important message through the power of music. Watch some of their music videos below:
