University Application Marathon

The University Guidance Counselor, Mr. Stan Sousek, will be holding an optional University Application submission session on Friday, December 16th, 2022 from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the SWA Campus library. All grade 12 students with application deadlines in December and January (up to January 15th, 2023) are invited to attend.

Grade 12 Applications student reminder:

All application materials for students with deadlines between December 16th, 2022 and January 6th, 2023 should be done by Friday, December 16th, 2022 at the latest as the school will be off for the holidays.

GRADE 8 AND GRADE 10 SUBJECT CHOICES

A key component of the SWA Best Pathways program is selecting the right subjects to take throughout the 4 years of High School (Grades 9 - 12). For students to know what subject choices they need to make in the IGCSE and IBDP, they must first know what University Major/Course they are interested in pursuing after high school. That is why career guidance is a key part of the SWA BEST Pathways and UGC program at SWA.

We start early, with Grade 8 career guidance(SDS Holland) and IGCSE course selection based on their BEST Pathways (Business, Engineering, Science, Technology, and Arts); followed by the DP Course selections in Grade 10.

For Grade 10, this is the most important subject choice they will make, as most universities base their entry requirements on the IBDP subjects. It is also the last chance to make any changes in the student’s BEST Pathway should it be necessary. To kick off the process, students have taken the MBTI and are now working on interpreting it as follows:

Grade 8 IGCSE Subject Choice meetings

Ms. Lindy and Mr. Stan are conducting individual meetings December 7th - 9th with Grade 8 students to review their subject choice selections and make sure they are aligned with their BEST Pathway using SDS Holland input. Subject Choice forms are due by December 15th; any changes can still be made the first week back to school in January.

Grade 10 IBDP Subject Choice meetings

Ms. Lindy and Mr. Stan will be conducting individual meetings January 9th - 13th with Grade 10 students to review their subject choice selection and make sure they are aligned with their BEST Pathway and career aspirations using MBTI and SDS Holland input. Subject Choice forms are due by January 15th, 2023.

IMPORTANT GENERAL DEADLINE PERIODS FOR INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS:

Grade 12 Students are busy working on their applications, most of which will be submitted this semester. Below is a chart with general deadlines according to deadline type and country.
