GRADE 8 AND GRADE 10 SUBJECT CHOICES
A key component of the SWA Best Pathways program is selecting the right subjects to take throughout the 4 years of High School (9-12). For students to know what subject choices they need to make in the IGCSE and IBDP, they must first know what University Major/Course they are interested in pursuing after high school. That is why career guidance is a key part of the SWA BEST Pathways and UGC program at SWA.
We start early, with Grade 8 career guidance and IGCSE course selection based on their BEST Pathways (Business, Engineering, Science, Technology, and Arts). The first step is to take the SDS Holland as follows:
SDS Holland for Grade 8 Students
Introduction to SDS Holland
Date : Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022
Time : 2.20 - 3.00pm (PSD lesson)
SDS Holland Assessment
Date : Wednesday, November 9th, 2022
Time : 2.20 - 3.00pm (PSD lesson)
SDS Holland Student workshops and activities
Date : November 16th, 2022 (in class)
For Grade 10, this is the most important subject choice they will make, as most universities base their entry requirements on the IBDP subjects. It is also the last chance to make any changes in the student’s BEST Pathway should it be necessary. To kick off the process students have taken the MBTI and are now working on interpreting it as follows:
MBTI for Grade 10 Students
Introduction to MBTI
Date : Friday, September 16th, 2022
MBTI Assessment
Date : Friday, September 23rd, 2022
Time : 11.30 - 12.10 (PSD/UGC Lesson)
MBTI Student workshops and activities
Date : Friday, October 29th and November 4th, 2022 (PSD/UGC lesson)
After the assessments, workshops, and in-class activities, parents and students will attend Workshops in December offered together with the IGCSE/MYP Orientation and the DP Orientation workshops. Then, after spending the holidays talking about it with their parents and further exploring their choices, students will meet the UGC and Social Emotional counsellors in short mandatory meetings to discuss their BEST Pathway and course selections.
