Disposal Bin
We need a garbage bin as a part of our whole design to be able to contain the hardware and demonstrate how our design works. We plan to possibly purchase the disposal bins like the ones shown on the left. Then building a place for the camera and lights to be placed.
Hardware
The hardware that we will be using will be the the amazon fire tablet. It will be the platform that our recognition software will run on. The tablet will act as a interactive screen for the client to interact with and initiate the recognition process.
Software
The Recognition software is perhaps one of the most important components of our project. We plan to use a high-level programming language provided by Thunkable. From this we will develop a program which scans the barcode, identifies the item which the barcode represents, and shows where to dispose of the item.

Why is this the best solution?
Making a interactive device which helps people to dispose correctly is the best possible solution because it can look and analyze various objects to tell which bin it should go in. The best solution to pollution is recycling. By placing recycling bins and compost bins everywhere people thought this may solve the issue permanently. However, many people who want to recycle do not have enough knowledge on how to do it properly. When people are confused they are more likely to just throw everything in the trash even if it can be recycled. By having an interactive device people will also be more motivated to recycle. This is an effort to decrease pollution in our community by reducing waste, therefore we believe our project is the best possible solution.
