Background
The CodeZone Challenge was conceived in 2021 with the purpose of providing coding opportunities to middle school students. We believed they received an unfairly small amount of opportunities to test and participate in coding competitions at that age. To combat this disparity, the CodeZone Challenge was created to serve as a bridge to the high school competitions, and provide a fun environment in which students can compete and test their python skills. The goal of CodeZone is to retain interest in coding through a fun competition that challenges and encourages these young minds.

What is CodeZone?
The CodeZone Challenge is a middle school coding competition that takes place on our student created and ran platform. The competition allows students roughly 4 hours to complete problems with the help of their team, where the other 30 minutes taken up by a different guest speaker. Students view the problems on our platform and the complete solutions to the problems in a separate IDE of their choice. From there they submit their programs to our platform, where solutions are checked by an autograder. The platform also contains a live leaderboard that updates as competitors solve problems.Â
