In 1977, Lonnie Nixon founded and financed the first "Boulder County High School Track and Field Championships". This meet was one of the first of its kind and became recognized as a qualifying event for state ranking. Lonnie was not one to draw attention to himself or to be in the spotlight. His focus was always to inspire and invest in the success of others. Starting in 1989, higher learning scholarships have been awarded to selected track & field student-athletes in BVSD and SVVSD.
