Per Desert View High School's Educational Planning Guide:
In order to ensure the success of our students, the Sunnyside Unified School District has implemented a credit recovery program designed to assist students who must earn additional credits outside of the regular school day in order to meet their graduation goal. Classes are offered after school, on weekends, and online.
Students needing credit recovery options must meet with their counselor to design an appropriate plan for academic progress. Classes offered for credit recovery include English, social studies, math, and science. In addition, opportunities for web-based learning are available. Credit Recovery is available to all upperclassmen who are behind on credits and motivated to regain appropriate class standing.
Weekend Academy
Weekend Academy and Math Academy allow students to recover lost credit or improve a passing grade. Credit is earned through a combination of class time and independent projects. Each class will meet for four weekends, a total of 54 hours of class time. In addition, office hours will be offered each session. Classes will be held at Sunnyside High School Freshman Academy (1725 E. Bilby Rd. / telephone: 520-545-5483)
Registration and Tuition: Students must register for Weekend Academy by submitting the registration form to the counseling office. Spaces are limited; a minimum of 20 students must enroll or the class will be canceled.
Attendance: Students MUST attend every session and hour of Weekend Academy and Math Academy to receive credit. There are no excused absences. Students must meet all deadlines for both in-class work and independent projects to pass the class and receive credit. Please make sure parents, guardians, bosses, and coaches understand your availability.
Discipline: All school policies apply to Weekend Academy and Math Academy. Any infraction that calls for discipline (fighting, illegal substances, excessive absences, insubordination, etc.)
