Director's Notes

First of all I hope your summer is off to a great start!  This is the first 2026-27 edition of the East Surry Bands Bulletin.  The purpose of the ESBB is to aid in communication and it will be updated throughout the year.

I am glad your child has chosen to continue in the award winning East Surry Bands as a part of the East Surry Cardinal Flight Marching Band!  This is an exciting opportunity for your student(s), however, please remember that there is also a high level of behavior expectation and commitment that is necessary to make this year a success.  I look forward to growth and success this coming year!

Please read the following information about what is happening at the beginning of marching season.

MB Student/Parent Meeting:  Sunday, 7/20 at 3:00 PM

Each year we hold a required parent meeting to go over the Handbook/expectations as well as distribute forms and information each student needs for marching season.  We will also have all paperwork, such as medical form and season-long permission form, on hand for you to complete.  Please have band fees ready at this meeting and bring a pen (more information provided in the COST section of this letter).

Summer Marching Band Camp

Band Camp is expected of all marching band members and will be on the following dates :

Monday, 7/20 - Friday, 7/24:  All Members, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Tuesday, 7/28 - Friday, 7/31:   All Members, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Friday, 7/31:  Friends and Family Night, 6:00 PM

Students should meet, promptly at the designated time, in the ESHS Music Room.  Please mark these dates now and avoid scheduling activities during these rehearsals.

Rehearsals for the week of after camp are still being finalized.  Check the website for updates.  More information about the regular, after-school rehearsal schedule will be provided at the parent meeting.

Please check the ESHS Bands website for the most up-to-date calendar information

Friends and Family Night

Mark your calendars!  On the last Friday of Summer Marching Band Camp we will host Friends and Family Night.  This is an opportunity for students to share what they have learned at camp.  We will serve dinner at 6:00 PM followed by the premiere of the 2025 competition field show!  Please fill out the form linked here: 2026 Friends & Family Night RSVP by 5:00 PM on Monday, July 27 to RSVP.

Cost

There is an $100.00 fee for participation in marching band.  This fee helps cover things like show design, uniform cleaning and t-shirt costs, and may be paid at the parent meeting.  Checks should be made to the East Surry Community Music Boosters or ESCMB for short.  If there are financial concerns, please contact me.

Accessory Items

Students will need several accessory items for the season.  These items are divided based on where we purchase them from.

Music & Arts

Ms. Baginski has set up a School Supply store for us!  These items will be needed at Summer Marching Band Camp.  Please allow time for items to be shipped to your home.

For your convenience, instrument maintenance items such as reeds and valve oil are included in addition to the required items.  There are also helpful percussion items like marching sticks and practice pads.

Lippo's Music Mart

Items that will be part of the uniform are ordered through Lippo's Music Mart.  This will be discussed at our pre-season parent meeting.

Other Considerations

There are a few items I feel need to be addressed before our parent meeting.

First, marching band uniforms are to be worn with no visible jewelry.  Therefore, refrain from getting piercings 3-6 weeks before marching season begins.

Second, the Summer Uniform will be band shirts and khaki shorts with tennis shoes.  The band will wear this on Friends and Family Night as well as early season football game performances.  As the weather cools, we may wear blue jeans with t-shirts as well.

Please be sure to have school appropriate khaki shorts and blue jeans that fit.

NightBEAT

NightBEAT is a Drum Corps International show at Wake Forest University on July 26.  Information was sent distributed about this in April and money was due by May 15 so that tickets could be ordered in advance.  However, we have extra tickets to this event.  Please contact Mr. Trice in order to purchase a ticket.

The following people are on record as having turned in money:

Seth Sharp

Judith Gates

David Conner

Sophia Estrada

Joseph Milwood

Eliza Jacobs

Chloe Turney

Taylor Sutphin

Raiden Liles

Kai Kresge

Coby Yarboro

Tri Phan

Reagan Boyette

Uniform Fittings

Lora Jean Thompson - ljthompson529@gmail.com - (336) 830-2240

Fittings for marching band uniforms will begin during Summer Marching Band Camp.  If you are able to help during camp hours it would be greatly appreciated!
