To evaluate this program, I will be using an evaluation method that involves both looking at data and also conducting interviews to find out the impact of the program on specific individuals. As such, I will be conducting my evaluation by looking at both quantitative and qualitative data to determine the overall effectiveness of the Peer Tutoring/Buddy Up program.
It is important to consider various perspectives on the impact of the program - from the perspective of students who have participated in the program, the guidance department and other teachers who run the program, as well as classroom teachers who have had students participate in the program. This will give a well-rounded evaluation of the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of the program. Since some of the program's results are data driven (i.e. how much did a student's grade improve while participating in the program), I will be able to draw conclusions about the effectiveness of the program somewhat easily based solely on the outcome data. However, since the program aims to also improve the overall academic achievement and social skills of students, further investigation that looks beyond the figures will need to be conducted.
To conduct this program evaluation, I will look at historical data of the number of students enrolled in the program, the courses they are enrolled in, the grades of students who are requiring both academic and social assistance, the demographic of the students enrolled and whether or not the students found success while enrolled in the program. For academic cases, success is measured by whether or not the student was able to pass the course and obtain their credit. For social cases, this may be more difficult to measure, so I will be relying on more qualitative approaches, such as interviews with teachers and tutors, to consider if the social challenges the students were facing have been overcome and to what degree.
Finally, I will also conduct research to see how the goals of the program are being measured internally and if there is any aspect(s) of the program that can be improved. From there, I will also provide feedback and suggestions for improvement in the program.
