This guidance represents our aspirations, recognizing that much of it, like AI itself, is a work in progress and rapidly changing. Together, we will build a future where AI helps create personalized and fair education, preparing our community for the challenges of the 21st century and beyond.
Vision
Our vision is to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the Sun Prairie Area School District to create an exciting educational environment where everyone can benefit from AI. But first, what is Artificial Intelligence? AI means using machines and software to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. These tasks include processing data, recognizing patterns, and making decisions based on algorithms. While AI can analyze information and make predictions, it does not think or learn like humans but follows programmed instructions and learns from data. Our staff will use AI to improve teaching methods, help students think critically, and make administrative tasks easier. Students will work together with AI, becoming adaptable learners ready for the future.
We understand that some families might be worried about AI. We promise to respect these concerns by being open about what AI is, educating everyone about it, and providing opportunities for families to share their thoughts and get support. By using AI tools, families can better support their children's education and become more comfortable with the technology.
Purpose Statement
Our main goal is to ensure AI tools in the Sun Prairie Area School District enhance human abilities rather than replace them. We are committed to using AI responsibly, ethically, and effectively, so it supports and improves the work of our staff, students, and families, making the educational experience richer while valuing the important roles of educators and family support.
At the Sun Prairie Area School District, we are dedicated to ensuring all students benefit from the use of AI in education. Here’s how we plan to ensure fairness and inclusion for everyone:
We will provide training for teachers so they can use AI tools effectively to help all students learn better.
We will create AI programs that are available to every student, no matter their background, by providing devices and internet access to students who don't have computers or internet at home.
We will offer resources and programs in multiple languages to ensure all students and families can understand and use the AI tools.
We will teach students and families who are not familiar with using AI tools how to use them comfortably and effectively, and provide individualized support to students with special needs, ensuring they receive the help and accommodations necessary to use AI tools too.
By taking these steps, we aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every student has the opportunity to learn with the help of AI.

This committee was composed of teachers (K-12), library media specialists, technology integrators, building administrators, and district administrators.
