The school counselor plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive developmental guidance program that promotes the educational, career, personal and social development of students. The comprehensive developmental guidance program should include the following 4 components: classroom curriculum, responsive services, individual planning and system support.
Classroom Guidance
Classroom lessons are done at least monthly throughout the school year to teach and increase academic success, career, and social/emotional skills. These lessons are administered online and in-person.
Small Group Counseling
A variety of small groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills along with their peers, as well as connecting with students who are coping with similar life situations. Groups can have anywhere from 3-10 members and usually meet once a week for six weeks.
Individual Counseling
Some students can benefit from one-on-one counseling regarding academic, social, or emotional challenges. If a student is in crisis, a student can see either school counselor. Individual counseling is completed on a short-term basis (a maximum of six sessions).
Responsive Services
Responsive services include crisis intervention, consultation, collaboration, and conflict resolution.
Parent and Teacher Consultation
Counselors meet with caretakers and/or teachers regarding issues with students.
