Welcome to the new page for the Ellis Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society!
I know you have questions, and we're going to have a meeting as soon as possible to clear up as much of that confusion as I can. With that said, there are a few questions that have already popped up that I will address here. If you have any others, please do not hesitate to ask me via email.
I did a whole bunch of hours this summer, but I don't have an hours sheet. Where do I find that?
You can find a Word document containing that very information on the Paperwork & Downloads page linked to on the left.
But wait! I just used last year's sheet/a blank sheet of paper!
That's perfectly fine this first time around, as long as it includes a description of the service done and a signature from the sponsoring adult. For next quarter, though, I expect for you to utilize the new form.
Next quarter? I did all my hours this summer!
If that's what you think, then you didn't pay very close attention to the form you filled out last year to join our membership (also available at the Paperwork & Downloads page linked to on the left). There's an expectation of five service hours every single quarter that you're a member, and one of those hours has to be dedicated to a school-designed service project.
Am I in trouble because I haven't done anything at school?
Of course not. That rule will only come into effect when there are a couple of different options for activities sponsored by the school for you to choose from.
Other than going over these questions again, what else will be on the first meeting's agenda?
I'm so glad you asked.
A hearty welcome to our chapter of the National Junior Honor Society.
A general review of expectations as laid out in the bylaws.
An introduction to the bylaws, and the fact that we will vote on them at the next meeting.
A due date for all of 2016/Q4 Attestation sheets (also available at the Paperwork & Downloads page linked to on the left). Spoiler alert - it will probably be 8/18/2016.
A description of the different leadership roles in our chapter, and a notification that elections will be at the next meeting.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
Best,
Mr. Wilson
